Would it be possible to set up the sims so that, in the future, when they need to be rebooted, a message is broadcast BEFORE they're rebooted? i was in the middle of editing a script, and the sim spontaneously rebooted on me, resulting in a loss of 5-10 minutes of work and some great code ideas i'd come up with but have since forgotten

Hey, Phil - when did the sim get restarted? During our open hours, we generally try as much as possible to shoo people out of the simulators and notify them if we're taking the simulator down, we don't like people losing content any more than you do. Oftentimes, though, during open hours, a simulator will either crash (logging you out), or spin-lock (which requires a developer to manually restart it right now). In those circumstance, we can't give any notification, because, well, you're already dead at that point - the restart is the mechanism of last resort. Especially in the case of the spin-lock, if you're not actually attempting to move, it'll appear that everything's fine, when in fact, it's not... Now, during off hours, we do usually try to give notification. However, we can't always give a long notification time during the off-hours - we often have reasons that we'll need to take the servers down and up as quickly as possible (applying a patch quickly before the grid opens for the day, for example). And also, well, sometimes we just forget - we're not completely infallible, even with all the indications to the contrary. Also, remember - every time that the servers go down during the off hours, there's a chance that we just fixed one of YOUR bugs. - Doug
