Ok folks, this is in reference to my other thread. I started a new one so it would be an easy reference for all. I have finally gotten the truth about terraforming after 1.3 from Ryan Linden:
ALL NEW SIMS (created post 1.3): - terraforming limit of +/- 4 sqm
ALL OLD SIMS (created pre 1.3): - surface map was "baked" at the launch of 1.3 (this means that it was saved at that height, wherever it may have been) - terraforming limit of +/- 20 sqm
LEASED SIMS (servers that are purchased from Linden Labs): - surface maps are based on a .RAW file that you create from templates Linden Labs offers you - terraforming limit of +/- 100 sqm
There you go, good, bad or ugly folks!

Just to add, people in OLD SIMS (created pre 1.3) can ask the Lindens to raise or lower the default +/- 20 sqm terraforming limit to suit the sim resident's purposes.

NOT TRUE!!!!

Sorry to say this Hank but what you have stated is NOT true!
I have spoken with the lindens and they will NOT "re-bake" the servers, and the restriction on the terraforming is an engine-level issue. Ryan Linden told me directly that they will not do this for anyone. Leased servers are the ONLY option in this fashion.

i wonder if the engine issue concerns the fact that the sims are "connected." that would mean that only DETACHED leased servers would be rebakable.
thanks for clarifying all this higbee. now we can start teaching land editing classes again and know what we're talking about. i tried to rip this info from the heart of the beast pre 1.3 but had to superglue a few scraps of comment together into something that only loosely resembled the outline of a few facts.

Sorry Higbee, but I spoke to a Linden and they changed the server's limits fro +-20m to +40m/-20m. They said that they will change the limitation on an old server if people request it and have a need. I don't know about "re-baking", I agree with you on that one.

we don't really need rebaking as long as they're willing to adjust the limits. we're talking about just the old sims right?
i still have a couple of questions through. does the 4 meter limit replace the 45 degree rule in the new sims? or is it still the case that you can't raise land on your neighbor's border to more than a 45 degree slope?
also, can the "return to bake" feature be enacted on a parcel of land or must it revert the entire sim? my impression is that i can request that MY land be reset to it's "original" position. but the may be wrong.
hey where'd that linden go? they can disappear faster than that roadrunner bird.

The "return to bake" is the new revert tool. It will return the land height to the baked values. It can be used over any part of your land, just like the flatten tool.
The limit adjustments only apply to the old sims, (i.e. requesting that they be changed).

That's correct Hank. Is what Revert is for in the tools menu. Also Khamon, the answer to your other question is that the new sims are NOT restricted to the 45degree rule, only the height limitations.
