This is day two that i cannot log onto SL. I was using Emerald and the background of the Im went black. I unistalled it and installed Regular SL viewer and I cannot log in. I've updated my graphics driver. I cleared cache. I been back and forward with Linden labs. Did anyone else with Windows Vista had the same issue? I remember weeks ago I upgraded Emerald and i received the same error so I went back to the older version and it worked until my the Instant messages background screen black out.
To make a long story short I have the regular SL viewer and I cannot log in. HELP I MISS SL

I was having strange connectivity problems yesterday and was getting the same message and the black screen sometimes (I'm using Emerald non-optimized and Win XP). I noticed there were updates to my OS pending and tried several times to install them (Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1). They have not installed correctly yet and not sure if that has anything to do with the problem.
So I checked out my firewall (Zone Alarm) and Emerald was not set to have automatic access so I fixed that. After that, I was able to connect. That's all I got.

I'm having issues with downloading Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and haven't been successful. My pc has failed some of those updates. I don't know what the issue is. I check my firewall and made sure that it is not blocked.
How do I give it automatic access in firewall. i think I took care of that issue. I'm so fustrated. Anyone with yahoo messenger who can help me please hit me up at sassybutclazzy@yahoo.com

Smithy is on the right track. Networking problems are the leading cause of "despite our best efforts ...". Something may have gone sour in the path between you and LL's data centers. First, try powering down your broadband modem for about 15 minutes and then rebooting your machine before you power it up. If that doesn't fix it, SL needs a sustained bandwidth of at least 400mb/sec in order to do anything at all - try testing your bandwidth at http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?flash=1If it tests lower than it should be and it is not a shared network, like at a school or work, call your broadband ISP. If it's a shared network, the network administrator may be blocking SL's ports or have throttled down its bandwidth too far. If you are using a wireless connection it may test fine but have frequent "dropouts" where the bandwidth drops to zero. Try directly connecting to your broadband modem/router.

What a Royal waste of time

So Second Life, thanks so much for wasting several hours of my time. I'm deleting this account, and uninstalling your pathetic program that comes with 0 customer support. I'll be damned if I sign up for a premium account, when I can't even log into a basic one.
I have cleared cache, reset modem, etc etc etc, and still can't log in. Your knowledge base is useless.
I will work selling my quality 3d content elsewhere.
