i downloaded this game but when i started playing it, it took forever for things to load and the entire game runs really slowly. i have a nice new computer and high speed internet and i dont understand what the problem is. is there something i can do to speed it up?

Some information about your computer system might be useful.
What kind of processor,
What operating system,
What clock speed,
How much ram,
What operating system
What kind of video card,
How much video ram,
Type of internet service,
Whether you are on a network, in a college dorm, etc.,
If networked, wired or wireless,
and such things as that.
If you just installed for the first time you might try doing Preferences / Network and increasing the maximum bandwidth and possibly the cache limit.
If you expecting the same kinds of frame rates you might get with conventional video games you are likely to be disappointed. SL downloads all the data you see all the time in a stream, unlike 3D applications that have all the world and object data pre-loaded on the hard drive.
There are several quality options on Preferences / Graphics to choose from, and you can check a customize box to let you adjust the details of each setting.
The single most effective way to reduce the load on both the video processing and the amount of data that needs to be transmitted is the draw distance.

Its not a "game" ! So don't be expecting it to run like a regular game. |
