I will be the first to admit I am no tech genius, but I want to ask if my reasoning is sound here.
In the afternoons, i can count on crashing 15-17 times every time I tp. I apologize if that is an exessive number of TP's, but hey, i support the SL economy in doing so.
For reasons surpassing all understanding, i entered in to a chat support session to see if i could get an answer (stop laughing I can hear you from here).
Here was the answer given to me: My NVIDIA card was not compatable.
hmmm
I then asked if it made sense that the same card worked jsut fine in the morning and late evenings, but not in the afternoons or early evenings. I asked if the state of incompatability was somehow dependent on the time of day. He did not like that question.
The mindless drone at first level support had no answer other than ot repeat that the card was incompatable. I reasoned that a barefoot stroll through the ocean of his intellect would scarcely get my feet wet. I left the chat....maybe he is still there waiting....please, someone go over there and give him a food pellet.
My question is this, for the techy people who do not dwell behind curtains: Is the answer I was given plausible? I would be happy to learn.

If you tell us which graphics card you have, we could answer better. Even better, go to Help/About in the SL client and paste here what it has to say about your computer. You can check card compatibility yourself here: http://secondlife.com/support/sysreqs.phpHowever, I think that if one is looking for client-side causes for failed teleports, your local networking setup is a more likely candidate for crashes than your graphics card. I don't suppose you're on wireless? Or using a shared network (like at school or work) that is particularly busy during those times of day? Or *shudder* on Comcast or some other ISP that may bandwidth limit during peak times? Not going to say anything about the servers possible contribution to your plight.

That compatibility list was not updated for months or years. Looking at it and try to find conclusions is the same like asking LL support. Waste of time at best.
There's a file in your SL directory, called gpu_table.txt. That lists all supported graphic cards and their default settings. Still doesn't mean it would work, usually driver problems screw it up.

It's pretty rare for me to crash when teleporting. I mean, maybe one or two in a hundred or something. However, if I'm bittorrenting up a storm and have little available bandwidth then teleports fail regularly. It's as if the client needs to get a lot of data very quickly or it will time out. If bandwidth capacity is down then some of that data takes too long and the connection is cut. One strong possibility is that you're on an internet connection that becomes flakier during high usage. i.e. all your neighbours are jamming up the ISP with high usage during the evenings and that's making you crash.
