Hi. I've been using Second Life for about 5 months and it's now my first time I'm trying to run it on Windows Vista. The problem is, every time I try to log in, the client crashes. I'm totally sure it's a graphics driver issue, but I already have the most recent drivers. Second Life runs fine on XP though. My computer specs: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor. Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1. 1 GB RAM DDR2. 250 GB HDD. ATI Radeon HD 3450 256 MB graphics card (Catalyst 8. . Creative SoundBlaster Audigy. EDIT: ATI released a new version of the driver (Catalyst 8.9) just now. I'm gonna test it to see if the problem is solved.

If the latest version of driver doesn't work, you might try using older and older driver versions; this works for some folks sometimes.

8.6., 8.7 and 8.8 didn't work (constant crashes) in SL with my ATI X1950Pro card... 8.5 runs great and have not had a crash since I installed it. I will try 8.9 now and see if it works with mine...

Early drivers are no longer available. I have a workaround now...Install or uninstall a different driver version, don't reboot. SL will work until the next reboot.
Apparently something in the install/uninstall causes the card to turn something off and i can get into SL.
Anyone know why???

From: Neva Poppy Anyone know why??? If you are using Windows, then Windows picked up some generic driver to display something on your monitor. What do you mean about ATI not offering older drivers? Are going to ATI's wedsite or Windows update? ATI is where you need to go.

Are you on a non-English system? I don't know if that bug is still around but there used to be a problem with windows using a comma instead of a period in decimal numbers. You can change this in the windows control panel and then try if you are able to login.

The problem is, that ATI cards are not really a good choice for SL. Theire OpenGL parts is working badly. Try to unncheck "Enable VBO" under Edit -> Preferences ->Graphics. You can get to that option by clicking the "Hardware Options" button. 4th line from above in the appearing window says "Enable VBO". Uncheck the box there. This should get SL working again. Hope this will help.
