I just got my PC back this week from a repair service and I discovered that they deleted my bought and paid for Webroot software and replaced it with something called AVG free. They did this without permission but I'll handle that issue with them.

My subscription with Webroot was to expire soon anyways and I had already planned on getting some ideas of good PC security software.

I'm not technically minded but I know that I need protection. But, I have used software in the past that made it nearly impossible to get online let alone use SL in its attempt to keep my PC safe.

I have cable high-speed internet and use the Vista OS.

I liked the Webroot program because it did have a "gamer mode" that lessened interruptions while in SL. The AVG software is causing SL to freeze up on me especially if I am running Yahoo Messenger at the same time. At least I think it is the AVG program. With the Webroot program I never experienced a hiccup whenever I received an email notification via Yahoo messenger. But, since I've been using the AVG, I have to stay logged out of Yahoo while in SL lest I receive an email notification and freeze up/crash in SL.

Any good suggestions for me to check into for good security that runs discreetly in the back ground?
