Hi my pc or SL keeps crashing and blue screening, Does this Second Life program
not support X64bit for windows and if not is there any chance of drivers being written to make it so. my system is not running in 32bit. only my brouser for 32bit.

Everything else passes well over minimum requirements.

This x64bit OS wont even support Flash player because of the none drivers situation.
thanks if anyone can help on this.
if you can help plz send info to [email]mr_e63@msn.com thanks

SL runs just fine in a 64-bit environment. There's nothing inherent about any 64-bit OS that would prevent the viewer from operating. Under 64-bit Vista and 64-bit OSX, it runs like a champ.

I suspect the problem you're having is driver related. What are your hardware specs, and what driver versions are you running? If your video card is from nVidia, the 175 series driver release is the most SL-friendly. If it's ATI, you may need to disable some features in the SL viewer to get it to work reliably.

In any case, so you know, 64-bit XP has been notorious for living in a driver vacuum, pretty much since its inception, which is why it never really took off. 64-bit Vista, on the other hand, does not suffer from that problem at all. I would highly recommend you update to Vista.

And don't believe the hype, by the way, about how "bad" Vista is. I switched to Vista Ultimate 64 a few months ago, after stubbornly clinging to XP for as long as I could. I'm pleased to say I have no regrets whatsoever after making the switch. Vista Ultimate 64 is hands down the best OS I've ever used. It's rock-solid, lighting fast, manages memory about a thousand times more effectively than XP ever dreamed of doing, and compatible drivers for it are abundant. And with the exception of a couple of oddball specialty programs you've probably never heard of and would never use, I have yet to find a program that won't run on it.

Now that your question has been answered (in the right place), let me take a minute to say please don't ask for answers from a public forum to be delivered personally to you via E-mail. That's extremely bad form. It's really an abuse of the forum, a disservice to all others who might have the same question as you, as well as to those who would then have to re-answer it the next time someone asks instead of just reading the already existing answer from the first time the question was posted. Please don't act so selfishly. If you can come here to post the question, you can come back here to read the answer.

Also, posting your E-mail address on any publicly accessible web page is never a smart idea. It's an open invitation to get bombarded with spam, phishing schemes, solicitations for malicious downloads, etc. Crawler programs look for @ signs on every page they can find, in order to spot E-mail addresses quickly, and then they broadcast them to whomever is listening.

Same issue on Vista Ultimate x64

I have the same issue with Vista Ultimate 64.

I was getting the Nvlddmkm.sys error for the longest time till I dropped the memory speed on the graphics card by 20mhz.. But it hasnt fixed the issue that SL makes vista fatally crash every 2-3 mins or when I try to compile a script [whichever comes sooner]

The only remedy I've been able to muster is running SL on my XP x86 partition. Perfectly stable on there.. Cept I can only use one monitor due to the 180.1 drivers for some reason.

Vista Ultimate x64 / XP Media Center x32 (Multiboot)
Intel Q6850 Core 2 Extreme @ 3.66 [Speedstepped to 2.0 - 3.66] (Same issue when not OC'd)
4GB RAM
2x Nvidia 8800 GTX [Running 180.1 Drivers in multimonitor SLI mode (Excludes XP)]
Nforce 680i Mainboard

You can get flash to run on Vista, you just have to download and install it using Internet Explorer 32-bit. 64-bit flash files arent in development yet or are just entering according to Adobe. Firefox'll also install them, but again, IE7 and IE8 64 cant use them.

There are no 64-bit builds for Windows. 64-bit versions are available for Debian and Ubuntu Linux only. See http://www.byteme.org.uk/secondlife/apt-get-a-secondlife.html

Wow, that's an old bug. I thought it was squashed by now. I used to get it on my old Vista 32-bit laptop. I've never seen it on any of my current machines.

It's got nothing to do with the fact that you're running 64-bit. It's caused by a bug in the nVidia driver install process (not sure if it's nVidia's fault or Microsoft's). It results in the failure to replace an older pre-existing version of Nvlddmkm.sys with the newer one you need. To fix the problem, you have to replace the file by hand. The process is explained below.

Note, I haven't ever actually tried this in Vista 64, since as I said, I've never had the problem on my current desktop or my current laptop. It only ever happened on my old laptop. I can't guarantee it will work, but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't. It's certainly worth a try. It's an easy fix if it does work, and if it doesn't, it's even easier to undo.

1. In your Windows\System32\drivers folder, find nvlddmkm.sys, and rename it to
nvlddmkm.sys.old.

2. In your nVidia directory, find the nvlddmkm.sy_ , and copy it to your Windows\System32 folder.

3. Open up a command prompt, and type "expand.exe nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys" (without the quotes).

4. The expansion process will have created a new nvlddmkm.sys. Copy it to windows\system32\drivers, and then restart the computer.

The problem should now be fixed. Note, you may need to repeat the process the next time you change nVidia driver versions, so don't forget what you did.

Try the 175.19 driver. When I was running the 180 series, SL would crash instantly if any other 3D app was running at the same time.

Also, disable Aero, if you haven't already. SL and Aero do not get along. If you've got Aero turned on, SL will freeze after a few minutes, then your screen will go black for a second or two, and you'll get a "graphics driver stopped responding, and has recovered" error message when your desktop comes back up.

True, but 64-bit Windows will run most 32-bit programs, including SL. If it fails to run, it's not because of the 64-bit environment itself. It's most likely a driver-related issue.
