Chat text won't use full screen width

This is a problem I've only had on my new high end laptop and not my old clunker, so go figure...

Anywho, when I start SL (both the regular and RC viewers) everything is fine with the text, and the option for text to use full width of the window/screen is selected. I can swap between programs and back to SL just fine with no change. But if I click to minimize SL to the taskbar, or the show desktop icon, then maximize SL again, chat text will only put a few words per line and then word wrap them to a new line. So what would normally be a single line of text is now an entire collum of text taking up about an inch of the left side of my screen. I tried changing resolutions, checking the options panel to see if full width use was still selected (which it is and tried de-selecting and re-selecting), swapping between windowed and full screen and everything else I can think of, but nothing works. The only way to fix it has been to restart SL. Any idea what the problem could be?

System Specs:
Pro-Star 9194 (clevo D901C based)
XP Pro w/SP3 (happened even with SP2, and my old lappy has SP3 without this issue)
Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz
512 MB nVidia 8800M GTX and 174.33 drivers
DX9.0C

it's standard 8:5 laptop ratio, 17" 1900X1200 to be exact but I've tried different resolutions and did't fix it.

This is the first time I can recall seeing this problem described.

Have you filed a support ticket?

Have you checked the issue trackers and filed a bug report if the problem isn't already reported?

I wish I had something more to offer than that.

You'll have to forgive what is about to likely make me sound like a total noob, but this is the first problem I've needed help on in the 1.5 years I've been on SL and I'm not familiar with jira other than what I tried to learn for this. After learning enough about jira to figure out how to search for my issue, I found https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1279 which is pretty much my problem (I haven't tried resizing the window, only the minimize issue but suspect it's the same). Then I went to try and learn how to make heads or tails of all the info that's in there, and I can't really understand what the current status is. Near as I can tell, it's still un-resolved and I guess currently no fix for it.

As for submitting a support ticket, I seem to remember reading a while back when I first noticed this problem that they only took support tickets from premium members...of which I am not.

Heh, I've been here over 4 and a half years, pay tier to Linden Lab, but can't file a support ticket for technical problems either since I'm one of the relatively small group of folks that can buy land without being premium.

You can and perhaps should add a comment to the jira issue. I voted for it.

I think I duplicated the effect.

I made my window manually sizable, then resized it small. Then used the Maximize button to maximize it.

The chat is only using part of the width of the screen, although the option in preferences text chat is set to use the full width.

This is in the latest release candidate.

It didn't happen when I minimized a maximized window and remaximized it. I had to manually resize the window to smaller than full screen, minimize, then maximize to get the problem to occur.

If you add a comment, try to describe in your own words the sequence of steps you are following. This might help it be reproduced by others. Also , you could ask friends to try to reproduce it and if so report it in the jira and vote for the issue.

I left a comment too and also listed my older computer's specs (Doesn't have this issue) so maybe it can give them something to compare. I've got my fingers crossed. Thanks for pointing me over there.
