I just got my good laptop back from the shop, and when I try to log into SL it gives me the "due to our best efforts...etc." message. No Go.
The odd thing is....that when I try to log into the SL web site, it won't let me do that either. And I'm fine going to any other web site. I get the Main Page to Log In....but when I go to log in, I get one of those pages that says the page is not available, and tried using the history of pages that I had been on, before I took it to the shop, and none of those will load either.
It works fine on my piece of crap laptop, so it's not an Internet connection problem. What would the possibilities be? Thank you. (and I am technically challenged, btw)

It loads the SL main page, then when you click on Log In it says:
This program cannot display the web page:
Most likely causes: You are not connected to the Internet. (I am) The web site is encountering problems. (it's not - I'm here now, on another laptop) There may be a typing error in the address (no, I used the log in button)
When I go to my bank web site, same thing....main page comes up...log in page does the above....same thing on anything that requires a log in page. If I go to Pottery Barn....every page loads fine.
I see something new on the screen with my icons called Malwarebytes.
Then when loading the SL program it says: Despite our best efforts, something unexpected has gone wrong.
Then, as usual....the reason it was in the shop, and 300 bucks later.....the fan cranks up real high, and the whole thing crashes, shortly after loading the SL page, which I have told them over and over again. Yeah, it works fine for them in the shop, because all they do is turn the darn thing on.
They had opened it up, and cleaned the whole thing out. When they put it back together, the "A" did not work, and they told me it was already like that. No....it was not, I need an "A" to function. "But all your letters are worn off".....doesn't matter, the keys always functioned. So we ordered a new keyboard, and they put a new keyboard on it.
Sorry for the additional drama. lol ..... I've run SL on that laptop non-stop for 3 years.

From: Mickey Vandeverre I see something new on the screen with my icons called Malwarebytes. You might try uninstalling this and replacing it with Avira or AVG. It is a slim possibility that the antivirus is seeing communication on the ports SL uses as virus-like activity and blocking it. Which does bring up another place to look for problems...your system log may have some useful information. Access it by opening Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer. Try looking in Application, Security, and System for any red circles that indicate an error (you can do this immediately after trying to launch SL so that any problems related to SL will be at the top of the list).

It sounds like you have a SSL problem. SSL is a type of login ecryption that secures your connection to the website youre trying to connect. It might be your web browser when the repair shop was messing with your computer. I'm also thinking you're behind a firewall. Malwarebytes is a program used to get popups and annoying ads out of a computer. Talk to the shop and see if they can open up your firewall to let to connect to sites. I'd also recommend using Mozilla Firefox ( http://www.firefox.com) Just copy paste that into your browser and see if that helps you log into sites. This problem seems a little to complex to do over a forum so i recommend going back to the shop where your computer was worked on.

Thanks, Veritable. You know....I went to Best Buy half a dozen times, while this was in the shop, and almost walked out with the ASUS....but frugality kept hitting, and never made it out with one. That $300 would have been better spent on a new ASUS. I don't need anything off this laptop. It was all backed up online.

It's shutting completely off again, after about 15 minutes, without any programs running at all. I appreciate the help.
