Hi, I got this new laptop and it crashes after 2 minutes in SL. Where did I go wrong with the specs?

CPU: Intel Pentium III/Pentium III Xeon (0.25 micron process) with external L2 cache (2399 MHz)
Memory: 2302 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 9200M GS/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL Version: 2.1.2 :(

Thanks for any help

the 9200M is a little weak, but should not cause crashes

is the computer running hot, does it have enough air flow?

Ok, really, the PC is my sister's and I got the specs from Help>About Second Life...but when I really checked the specs from the computer, it is this:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 1066MHz, 3MB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 - English (32 BIT)
256MB nVidia® 9500m graphics card
4096MB 1067MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]

1) Why would SL give me such different specs? I have used SL on 3 other computers and never seen that happen.
2) Actually, to clarify, SL doesn't really crash, the PC turns itself off. The system is fine when restarted. It runs regular programs with no problems.
3) My desktop has an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS (512 MB), so does this one having a 256 MB make it 'weak'?
4) The PC is not running hot and it has sufficient airflow.

Thanks for any help that I get!

You may not think the computer is getting hot, but it sure is acting like it's getting hot. Comparing a laptop to a desktop for heating issues is not a really valid comparison. The smallness of a laptop makes the components inside closer together, there is less unobstructed area for free flow of air inside the case, and any dust that will enter the case has less room to spread before it starts covering heat generating hardware components. Get some hardware monitoring software that will give you information on the temperatures of your CPU, harddrive(s), and graphics card......temps approaching 95 degrees celisus is getting pretty close to critical for most hardware.

A free program that is not necessarily designed for temperture monitoring but it does do it. It's easy to use, very low profile on the resources, and can be tossed to the task bar leaving only a semi transparent read out on top of all windows..........a little distracting but not overly so.

I have an HP laptop, nvidia 8600 card,i have two laptop coolers under it,each has two fans.
I can run sl all day and never have a problem with heat build up,a laptop cooler is a must to run sl
