Okay, so it was my very first moments in-game, being born in Second Life so to speak; of course, being the 34 year old man that I am, I maturely chose a female avatar first, so I could check out the options After a while of that, and interacting with a couple of the Linden staff (Hi Jennifer!), I decided that this was for real, and I had better switch over to a male avatar. I did this, and spent some time configuring him to look approximately like me - at least, what I will look like after 6 months at the YMCA weight room... Fast forward to the next day, and here I am flying around again; I run in to a lovely young female avatar, one I remember well from the party at BBC's the night before. We end up spending a romantic sunrise together, sitting on the foundation for what will be my little residence, getting to know one another. It was a wonderful morning, and I hope I will get a chance to see her again. We figure for sure the servers will go down at any moment (it is, irl, 0200 hours my time, Central); we end up flying back to the start point of the world, near a cube that I had quickly created to show her a screenshot of us sitting together. Okay, so I'm messing around w/different features of my avatar, as we are chatting. I end up taking off my avatar's shirt, to which she replied, "OMG!" Being the guy I am, I take any opportunity to inflate my ego (even in cyberspace, to my shame), and I do a little dance spin to show off the ripped torso, and notice that my avatar. is. still. wearing. a. bra. Now, first of all, before I say anything else, I really do hope that my lady friend will speak to me again. I do believe this falls under the heading of a "technical issue" despite what some of you might be thinking. I can say also, that this for me is truly a classic and defining moment in my online experience. I am just as big a dork in cyberspace, if not more so, than I am in real life. When I say that something like this could only happen to me, I truly mean it. Hope you all enjoyed my little story, and see you in game (I'm the one blushing still), Solitaire

This may be the last such message... As of today, the new user template has more gender-neutral clothing, and is wearing an undershirt rather than a bra. (The bra's still in the inventory if you want to create this experience!) Old accounts have not been changed, but all new ones will.
Man, what a great story.

I ran into the same issue, but didn't mention it to anyone.. Actually that's not true. I think I mentioned it to a Linden when it happened. However, I didn't want to make a name for myself by posting it on the forum. Thanks for taking the spot instead Solitaire.

From: Aurens Czukor BEST.STORY.EVER. You sir, made my day. (I just looked and saw that this happened in 2002 ) *bows* *tips hat* yeah Aurens, twas a long time ago in a closed beta far far away. Thanks everyone. I'm just going to have to rejuvinate my subscription, SL is too much fun and everyone is just crazy friendly and great I wonder if my old avatar is still around somewheres? Or is it localized on each PC and therefore long gone several formats ago?

The avatar was never stored on your PC, however, you cannot get it back. All the contents of the old accounts are long gone...you can, however, get the name put on a new acocunt. They MIGHT even be willing to change the avatar's birthdate to show your original date. Welcome back!

Thanks James! I figured as much. I know I can rebuild him.... Anyway I've sent a plea to the Lindens via email regarding getting my account reopened or at least getting a new account with my old name put upon it. I certainly hope that works out - I'd love to get back in SL and meet all the tons of new people but it wouldn't be half the fun with a new, anonymous name. We'll see what they have to say! *fingers crossed for luck*

Just a quick note to say that I got my account back along with my "born on" date not to mention that the database kept a copy of my original screenshot for my profile, now that is really cool. Already met lots of friendly people which is why I love SL so much. I gotta say the place has really grown up since I've been gone. I think I've got my av looking basically like before too but with some nice new clothes thanks to a certain shop in Indigo Thanks to the Lindens for devoting so much time and energy to this great project. I'm glad to be back!
