Ok ever since last Wednesday when SL did their Rolling whatever, I spend more time crashing then actually playing the game. It actully freezes up my whole computer. I cant stay on longer then about 10 minutes or so. Occasionally I can stay on for hours and that is like a godsend...LOL I HAVE done the usual, cleared cache, uninstalled, reinstalled SL, and went as far as doing a fresh install of Windows XP (yes I am that hooked). Its STILL DOING IT!!!!

Now does ANYONE know what is going on??? It is even crashing and freezing up my computer when I am not on SL. When I uninstall the game, my computer works fine. I have come to the website and ran the thing that checks your system to see if my computer is able to run SL and it is above the minimum requirements.

OK NOW WHAT???!?!?!?!?!?!??!

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Your computer crashing with other programs too is not SL related....even if is installed your computer. If the program is not running your computer has no idea it even exists.

From the vague discription it sounds like you have some software that is running (background programs) that is corrupted or borked in some way. Or you may have some hardware device inside (or connected to) your computer that is failing on you.

Not knowing anything about your computer I can only tell you a few things to check that might cause the problem or maybe lead you in the direction of a fix for it.

Open your computer and blow it out thoroughly with a can of compressed air. Look at all the fans when you do that and make sure they are spinning freely when you blow air on them (blowing air backward through them will not harm them). Look closely at all connections to the motherboard and make sure they are securly seated in their respective slots or recepticals. Listen to your computer for grating sounds when the hard drive spins up. Run your antivirus program..........complete scan.

And a question......when you reinstalled Windows did you format and start completely fresh or did you install it over the original installation? Depending on where the problem lies with a software program, installing over it does often correct the problem.

All I can think of right now. But if you list your computer specs it will help someone here help you.

Thanks when I reinstalled XP, I deleted that partition so I did a clean Install.

Here are the specs for my Computer:

VIDEO CARD - ATI RADEON 9250
INTEL PENTIUM 4 CPU 2.53GHZ
RAM - 2MB
WINDOWS XP

ASLO I DID AS U SAID, I CLEANED OUT THE CPU AND ALL IS TIGHT ON THE MOTHERBOARD.

Your graphics card is the same one I used when I first installed SL. It worked okay but not the best. SL has grown quite a bit since I had that card (2 years ago) so maybe you need to update the drivers for it. Go to ATI and search for it.....not your computer manufacturer. If you find one download it to your hard drive and scan if for virus, then uninstall your current driver before installing the new one. I've heard the Catalyst drivers are more problemactic than the Omega drivers........but I have nVidia now so I don't really keep up with ATI problems.

A bad or corrupted driver could cause your computer to crash on most any program you run.............even while XP is just sitting at your desktop. But, uninstalling SL would not have a bearing on that at all.

That sounds suspiciously like a overheating problem. But, I'm thinking that by freeze you mean your computer completely stops responding. If SL is just crashing then maybe trying another viewer might help you out.

If it's your computer itself freezing then check for fan operation. Take the side of your case and get a flashlight........make sure all fans are working. But don't run the computer too long without the side on because that could also cause an overheating situation. Perhaps the most important fan is your CPU fan.......check it closely.

One other thing.........by freezing you might mean that you cannot move your avatar but maybe you can spin around. That is an indication that you've lost your connection to the LL servers. Likely sources of that would be your modem and/or router. Simply unplug them from the electrical soource for 3 to 5 mins then plug them back in.

Just a few things that come to mind.
