On this night I stepped into Ahern and did the casual waiting for people's av's to load, I noticed this peculiarity. This curious face pattern appeared on this fellow's back and chest. When his textures finally did finish loading, the faces vanished. They were apparently bumpmapped, not textured, as when I zoomed out it disappeared (II had bump draw distance at 10) until I zoomed back in again. I showed this to Nova Linden, she was baffled as well. Said something about the guy being marked by aliens.  I'd love to hear any opinions the designers have on this... or if it's perhaps an /intentional/ easter egg. -Psyra Extraordinaire-

wouldn't suprise me if it was a bug. When ever i put on a skirt the first texture it shows on it is a current screencap (this is before the real texture loads).

That's a bug. Because of the way avatar textures are assembled on the client, then relayed back to the server for download to all the other viewers, if there's a problem with the originating video hardware, the avatar texture can be distorted, as with the common "skirt screenshot" bug.
As for the specific cause of this particular bug, I can't be sure. If I were the one whose back had a face suddenly appear on it, I'd check my video drivers and system temperatures first.

The face texture looks alot like the local bump texture bump_head_base.tga which is located at <programdir>\secondlife\character
Yup. This be a client-side bug on the rendering bit prior to submission to the server.
