It is outright stupid that teleporting into this sim results in an entire crash of the program as well as a requirement to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to turn off SL--and, from what I hear, some people have to reboot their entire computer because of this sim. TAKE IT OFF THE GRID. THE OWNERS DON'T WANT US IN IT, AND CURIOUS PEOPLE ARE CRASHING TRYING TO TELEPORT INTO IT.

/me is irritated.

Seriously, that's really not cool. If you don't want people in it, take it off the grid. Period. Don't go gloating.

There's a Taost proverb: If you gloat about what you have, you won't have it very long.

i sent a bug report about it a while back. you can sometimes not crash if you minimize the client after you tp in while flying. But if you do crash just relog and keep the client minimized for a min. it will push you to <0,0,x> or just a bit less then that. Ah well.

Yeah I posted a thread about it before after it crashed my client. It's the easiest thing in the world to fix, just as I have in Krittannia. I gave that advice in the post, too.

I checked it again recently to see if it was still the same, and actually filed it as an abuse report myself this time. It's a form of griefing. And it's not like the owner doesnt know how many people it's upset by now.

I can teleport there, but the land is restricted, so I can just hover around 20m above the land. I flew all around and checked it all out like that. But, if it is a private island, it needs to be off the grid, it will benefit both restricted and non-restricted parties that way.

I entered a bug report about it too. After TPing there and seeing the resulting Sh*t storm totally redline my connection and freze my machine when the client hammered the CPU into the floor untill the laptop just wedged.

It's not that WE visit, it's that other people who don't know it's restricted (and how should they?) would and have to reboot. Not fun.

How is a sim able to crash the client? That's not the fault of the sim, that's LL's problem (prepare for another patch).

Well, yes, it's probably highlighting a bit of a flaw in the land access system when applied to a closed sim, but I REALLY don't see a patch happening for it. The sim owner could fix it with one very very simple action, which I've already told him in another thread.

The problem is that the whole 16 acres is a single parcel and set to no access, so it tries to eject you, but has nowhere to eject you to. Which means it tries very hard to do something it can't, slows your client down to totally unresponsive, eventually throws you offworld and crashes Second Life.

If the owner was to simply parcel off the telehub area and NOT apply the access restrictions, this would not happen - when someone TP's in, they see red bars everywhere but can TP out without crashing. Yes, you say, but then you could fly up and over the island anyway.

Well, if he really objects to people coming on his island that much, all he has to do is include a script with a sensor that runs against a list of allowed people or an active group and teleports people home with an IM of explaination. Rather than piss them right off. It's exactly how my sim works. If you are not welcome on my island, it sends you home and tells you so.

But actually I agree with the other posters - if he doesnt want the public on it, it shouldnt be visible on the grid. Simple as that.

What I WOULD like, though, is the extended island management toolset we were promised 'a few weeks' after 1.4.

It appears that the 'mysterious' Sim owner have installed a security orb that shoots people off to the edge of the Sim when they access.

I find this just as much as offensive as being crashed.

If they dont want people to enter their Sim, they need to take it -off the grid-.

There is absolutly no reason for the Sim to be visible if they do not want the general public to enter.

Want private? Be private - The right way.

Ok. So now it's gone from possibly ignorant griefing to deliberate and sheer bloody minded griefing. I shall make a point of abuse reporting them again, then, and with even more justification than last time, which I kinda of assumed might have been lack of knowledge or whatever. But now they're just proving what they're really like.

Hah, my anchor script withstands it. (Buy now!)

Isn't the ability to have the sim show as visible on the map a toggle for sim owners? Or am I imagining the Lindens doing things again?

It was supposed to be weeks and weeks ago. They sent sim owners us a shiny email about all the new features they were going to implement. And havent.

I think that you can just mail lindenlabs and ask to render your Sim invisible and all?

Shouldnt be hard server-side.

Is it possible:

1. The sim owner doesn't read the forums, and doesn't know it is causing this problem?

2. He put up the turret to evict folks who were somehow bypassing the ban?

I normally do not come to the boards posting, but I was referred to this link and another link pertaining to this sim.

My sim is the next sim over from Black Tarn. Whenever my sim crashed, our new location automatically teleports us to Black Tarn.

Well after spending an hour being bounced off this sim, lagging completely to where the SL application stops responding, restarting the game over and over again and being completely unable to TP to a new location(sim) ... I had to have a Linden move/TP my character. Which again took 10 attempts of crashing and restarting. This happened to all individuals that live on my sim.

I have better things to do then spend over an hour trying to TP out after a crash. I agree, if you wanted a private sim, then you should have it unvisible to the public. The lindens should really do something about this.
