Is there a setting to limit the distance from which an avatar can hear sounds? (By which I mean, what you change the volume of with the "sound" volume slider in the client). Doppler? or a debug setting?

Background info:
We have a parcel in Caledon on a sim which has a LOT of sounds, and we've added our share, which we're paring down. Whenever we set our rez distance above 300 or so, we eventually get infinitely repeating sound snippets as if we had run out of sound buffers on our PCs.

HOWEVER, SL is doing it, because when we turn on sound beacons, GET THIS!!! the beacon for the repeating sound is active for the entire time the sound repeats!!! And, on our local PC, Skype and even winamp will be running fine in parallel.

This indicates to me that the problem is in SL's asset server not being able to keep up with spooling a whole lot of sounds out to our avatars, and running out of buffers in the client somehow. If we set our rez distance very short, say 98m, we don't have the problem - evidently SL sends sounds to avatars depending on the rez distance setting? Odd!

Sounds are only played when the center of the object that plays them is within visable draw distance.

This is simply because the sim only sends info related to visible objects to your client, to save bandwidth.

Other then that I have no idea about the rest of your post.
