Avatar changed without warning, lost inventory

I logged in yesterday to find my avatar's hair and face look different. The first thing I tried to fix it was to switch to another saved hair setting, then switch back. When I went to switch back to the original, the item in question was missing from my inventory and "new hair" was there in its place. This "new hair" is the altered hair I had when I first logged in.

I don't care that much what my av looks like, but I'm sure if changed / lost inventory is happening too much, a loooot of people are going to be upset.
