Can you select everything (well a lot of things anyway) to avoid a deletion disaster?

Sorry the title seems a bit confusing, but I'm not sure how else to phrase it.

What I 'm asking is this:

Say you put down your house.
Design a wall around the outside (your own build perhaps)

Make a path, some decking, and put in some trees etc (just a basic plot layout)

Is there anyway to group together all these items (not the normal link method) so that in the event of a disaster (perhaps you accidentally delete some major items) you can re-rez everything in one go and it all appears back.

I've seen Rez Box's (and have used a few with houses and larger items) and am wondering if this is what I need?

And if so do they have limitations and how do they work?

It would be nice to put together a basic layout of items and then store them for later deployment there, or perhaps somewhere else (same house and garden on a new plot)

Just to add to my 1st post.

I've found a Rezzer System which appears to do exactly what I'm after.

In that it allows you to rebuild your home in another location putting everything back exactly in place as it was when you 1st set it up.

Quite a expensive tool (in SL terms) at L$1500 but in real terms it could save a lot of grief?

Before I commit to buy, anyone care to advice if this is the exact item I need.

(built a simple house and garden) then use a device to grab eveything so I can use this box to put eveything back exactly in place again at another location?

Thanks

P.S anyone care to recommend the easiest to use (menu driven?) version of this type of product that does a good reliable and precise job?

If everything you have is copiable, you can just select everything and take a copy of it into inventory.

Disable Camera Constraints and pan out until you can see everything in your view window. Turn on Select Only My Objects. Press Ctrl-3 to turn on the Edit window, and then draw a box around all your stuff to select it. Then right-click something that is selected, click More, and Take a Copy. You now have a copy in your inventory. It will have an icon beside it that looks like several boxes stacked on each other. Rename it to something you will recognize later. Note that this is called soft-linking. The items retain all their normal links.

You might want to run over to your nearest safe sandbox and rez it to make sure you got everything.

I have no experience with the rezzer devices so I can't help with that. But then again, using this technique, you don't really need one.

Ah right....

Does this maintain all the objects positons and orientations?

Which is my main concern. Yes, or course, I want a copy of my items, but also my major requirement is it's positon and orientation in respect of all the other objects.

EG: When you drag this folder back out, does it reconstruct everything in the same place or you you just end up with a load of scattered bits infront of you?

I guess, I like the RezBox idea, as it seems you just use the box, everything gets put back in it's correct place, and then you just move the single rez box around to centre everything in your plot before finalising it and deleting the rez box.

(well I think that's how it works) :)

Everything will be in the exact same position and rotation. The only thing is, when you put it back out you have to manually position it, but you can do it all at once.

The rezzer devices will help you position the house when you put it out. But, as I understand it, you have to put a script into every prim you want to include in the box.

You might want to try the free build rezzer called Builder's Buddy you can find in the Second Life wiki.

For non-free ones, there's Rez-Foo and Rez-Faux .

Thanks.
Yeah, I did a search thru the forums and managed to find Builder Buddy.

Not tried it yet though. (is it true that there needs to be a script added to every object and if so are there issues with that, or just messy?)

I did also just try the selecting it all and taking a copy which worked.

But I did slighty cock up as after I took the copy, I moved my controller and managed to accidentally rotate every item (not the house) by a fee degrees in every direction !!!!!

Just luckily it was just a few items that I had to go back into and reset their X,Y,Z rotations!

Silly me!

I should have locked them all!
