Is anyone hearing in world sounds ? That is ... typing noises, avatar sound, footsteps etc. All I hear is the wind and music, I get no other sound even though there are many local sound files installed in the SL Package. Is this a bug in the Mac version ? I played on a lower specced (than my Mac) PC ( !!! ) over the weekend and i'm sorry to say it was a nicer experience, faster smoother and there was in world audio.

I am not on a mac, but settings are the first thing that came to mind. In audio preferences, there are seperate sliders for system sounds, footsteps, etc. Double check that these are not disabled or set too low.

My apologies if you have already checked that, its an easy one that many overlook.

Laukosargas you're not alone in your plight. I have the exact same symptoms. I can hear wind & music streams (sometimes) but not footsteps or UI sounds. My audio prefs are cranked, so that's not the issue.

I'm seriously jonesin' for my sound effects! :(

Well that's a relief!
I spoke to a Linden today and he told me to file a bug report. Please can anyone who is experiencing this problem file a bug report by select the Report Bug item in the Help Menu

If we dont file bugs they wont get fixed !

Now that I've read this thread, I'll do the same. I thought it was just my client or some setting, though I've played with all of the settings. It just wasn't that important to me until I was not able to hear Ace's synchronized drums.

Just to share my own experience with sound.. I had a similar issue a while ago. Well, it's pretty darned close to the same issue, but this was before we had streaming music, so I couldn't tell you if that worked.

What magically cured it on my machine was turning off file vault.. kinda funky, but that was all I had changed on my mac the day that SL's sound messed up.

Also, make sure that you're deleting the cache often. :)

thanks, I don't use File Vault or Journalling, but it must be a system set issue, becuase I've met others with same machine and system software who say the sound works for them. It's so frustrating not being able to go hear the tribal drums ! I'd rather this issue was fixed before the absolutetly dismal frame rate.
