Considering two Dell notebook models. Which would run Second Life better?

1) Dell XPS 1530 2.6 Ghz T9500 processor with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB card

2) Dell Latitutde E6500 2.8 Ghz T9600 processor with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M 256MB card

Thanks!

# 1
why?

8600M GT
Core Speed ~475 MHz
Shader Speed ~950 MHz
Memory Speed ~700 MHz
Memory Bus Width 128 Bit

NVS 160
Core Speed ~580 MHz
Shader Speed ~NA
Memory Speed ~700 MHz
Memory Bus Width 64 Bit

you have a faster clock speed on the nvs, but since its only 64 bit ram you actually loose 1gb/s in memory bandwidth, and your fill rates drop (both in pixels and texels per second)

also since the nvs is designed towards cad/cam type applications, and not real time games you run into speed and compatibility issues, and as you already know it may or may not work with SL, it seems to work right now, but will it 6 months down the line?

one last thing, i dont know why your hung up on dell, for what your going to pay for last years middle of the road, you could have this years badass

Thanks Osgeld, makes sense. Stuck on Dell just because of university purchasing arrangements. However - let's go with your thought - what's your dream badass 15" system that costs the same as a Dell XPS 1530?
