When I go to my land, I have a big chat window which covers my screen, with other residents chatting on the screen, so therefore I am unable to see anything that I am doing while I am creating.
Could someone please help me!

You're getting spammed by an object. Click the History button so you get chat in a smaller window instead of filling the screen.
Also, post the SLURL for where this is happening and somebody may come by and try to track down the offending object.
