I use an ATI mobility 9000 in my laptop, I'm wondering why my graphics is having a hard time rendering SL, I have included a snapshot of what my world looks like. I updated my drivers to the newest version and I was hoping for some input.

Have you tried disabling fog? (Debug>rendering>features>fog) Looks like that *might* be part of it. When things are slow to rez, fog and shafts of light seem to show up as a Giant Grey Square of Doom.

You are quite welcome. ^^ I started turning off fog and clouds every time I logged in thanks to a tip from a friend. It cuts down on some lag too. Not by a lot, but every little bit helps.

There ARE no updated Radeon Mobility Drivers available from ATI.

I run SL with all bells and whistles on a Mobility 9000 64 MB card with no graphics issues at all thanks to Omega drivers, which are Catalyst drivers hacked to be used with Mobility cards.

The newest ones (based on Catalyst 6.5, the current version) can be downloaded at www.omegadrivers.net.

Good luck and have fun.

wow, really?? ok, now i'm getting excited!!! i have been slow as molasses for the longest...to the point i was ready to just give up, cuz buying a new laptop [i just bought this one brand new one year ago] is NOT an option....neither is upgrading the graphics card or RAM....i hope the omega driver is the miracle i've been waiting for! if it is, i'll have to find you in world and kiss your whole face!!!

I used a piece of software called DH mod tool v3, which takes pieces from the Non mobility drivers and creates an updated driver. It updated my card to the newest catalyst driver available, anyone using mobility should check it out. Here is the link DH Mod.

Please note that the above list includes several cards that do not work with Second Life. "list of supported cards" in this case has nothing to do with "supported by Second Life"; it's a cut-and-paste from a different piece of software.

Just trying to avoid confusion.

Do not work, or simply "we don't want you to use this card?"

I have an ATI Mobility 7500 in my laptop, and SL plays just fine on it, yet it's on the "This card doesn't work" list. Explain?

Its not that it doesn't work, its that a lot of people with that card will have issues, like crashing, then post there problems in here only to be told "we told you so" So count your blessings now Zack, you are one of the lucky ones but dont expect it to be stable forever.

As anyone who works in the computer industry will tell you, Is Not Supported or Does Not Work is shorthand for the fact that the Software was never tested with that OS or Hardware. This is most common when it concerns unusual, out of date or End -of-life componants that would not be cost effective to do a full test run for. For example, Windows 95.

It may work just great, it may make your system explode, it may work for some and not for others or some features may work while others don't....but this is their legal way of saying "We never tested it so don't blame us if it ruins your life."

As always...Caveat Emptor.
