Voice not working!!!

I have'nt used voice in a long time, but the last time I did it definetly worked. I have not changed any of my settings, microphone, speakers...anything like that since I last used it and then yesterday when I wanted to use Voice, low and behold, it is not working.

I don't know if it is something to do with the newest viewer, 1.19.0 (5). I updated it yesterday before trying to use voice and it's not working. I have checked my Mircophone on Windows sound recorder, it recorded my voice perfectly and also when going into the 'Sound' settings in Control Panel and then onto the Microphone, it shows the green bar's lighting up whenever I speak into it....So I know that the Microphone works correctly.

But when in SL, voice chat enabled, the 'Talk' button seems to be greyed out. And when I try to do the Device Settings, and Voice Chat Setup, The 'input level' slider continues to say 'Please wait'....and to no avail if I do wait :P. The Input Device is selected as 'Microphone (Realtek)' and the Output Device is selected as 'Speakers (Realtek)'. I try to select the defaults too to see if that works but nothing, the Input Level slider just continues to say 'Please wait', and there isn't that small dot to suggest Voice Chat above my Avatar's head like there usually is...lol.

It's frustrating :P, I don't know what to do and I have unplugged the Microphone and then back in but that didn't do anything lol. Annoying....

doesn't sound like a problem with your mic and speakers, or inputs and outputs. It sounds like you aren't being able to connect to the voice server at all. make sure you have no security or firewall software blocking SLVoice from getting out (or in) and that you dont have a firewall/router blocking it either.

Yes, voice uses a different port. Be certain it's open in your firewall.

You both were right. It was my Firewall stopping the SLVOICE application from getting through to the server. But one thing that confuses me still is that, even though the program for SLVOICE is on the 'allowed' list on the firewall, it still won't let it to get through. :P.
Which is rather strange. To make sure it was the firewall, I disabled it and Voice Chat worked lol, but when put back on again....it stops it yet again.

I wonder why :/...

Either check SL's awful documentation or search here for the port number(s) used by voice and make certain they are open...both in your software firewall and any router. (SL requires lots of different ports be open.)
