SL Does not startup!! Please Help!!!!

Hi,

I have a new laptop running Vista Home Premium, I have installed SL on it but every single time I try to run it, it crashes.

I get about 2 seconds of the initial black window, it disappears and then the crash logger starts.

I have tried re-installing but still the same happens.

My spec is -

Samsung R40+
Core 2 Duo T5300
2GB RAM
ATI Xpress 1250 with 256MB Shared RAM
120GB HD
Windows Vista Premium Home
8MB Broadband

Has anyone any ideas what the problem may be?

This problem has now been solved, with huge thanks to Cordoso


The problem is caused from an error in the OpenGL for Vista on ATI based machines.

ALL ATI cards are affected as far as I know, and even ATI Driver Catalyst 7.5 does NOT solve the problem alone.


If you run Vista on an ATI based machine and are having similar problems follow these steps -

1. Update your ATI Graphics driver (Latest release currently Catalyst 7.5)

2. Download and install this compiled version of SL, written by Cordoso
http://www.noxforum.net/files/Second Life 1-16-0-5 Setup.exe

Run SL and DO NOT update, at least for now SL should run

exist out there a Second Life Client for XP users too?

If you will list your computer specs and discribe your problem in a little more detail maybe someone here can help you. Right now I know nothing about your problem except it won't work.........kind of at a loss to what to say that is usuful for you.

Aliester, you might do well to start a new thread in the Resident Answers forum, rather than continue posting in this old thread that has nothing to do with your problem and has the added distraction of obsolete links in it.

Like Peggy said, describe your problem in detail, along with your system specs.

If it's a computer with a make and model, like for example a Compaq ns670, or something like that, tell us that.

Type of processor, like Intel Pentium D, or AMD Athlon, or what have you

Operating system, service pack level, and number of bit, like Vista Home, 32 bits, service pack 1

Amount of ram

Brand and model of video card or brand and model of onboard processor, like ATI Radeon x800

Amount of video ram
