I currently have an older dell notebook that is not compatible so it constantly freezes. I am looking into getting a new laptop from dell. The video cards they use are Intel Media Excellerators (X3100 and others). Is this compatible with SL? Anyone else use a dell with SL?

Don't waste your money on any machine that has integrated graphics. You want a discrete graphics card. What's your budget? There are several I could recommend, in most price ranges.

don't waste you money on integrated graphics if you want to do SL and similar graphics stuff, unless its the nvidia geforce 9400... its surprisingly very good for integrated.... though most companies aren't using it yet.
Its hard to get a good laptop that is all around good as a laptop, and as a powerful machine, because usually the more powerful the laptop gets.. the less like a laptop it gets... (battery life, size, etc...)
Just takes a lot of time looking at many many laptops, don't settle quickly, do a lot of research on laptop makers websites, find ones you think look good, and then find reviews on that exact laptop, and read many... it really pays to research before buying.

If you want to run SL fairly well on a laptop, I'd recommend one of the Dell Vostro models which have as an option the Nvidia GeForce 8400M video card. I have a Vostro 1400, Core2Duo/4GB ram, Nvidia video, and it runs SL great.. The 1400 is now discontinued, but they have several other models, most of which have the Nvidia option. It adds about $100 to the cost of the unit, but another tip on these machines from Dell is buy them from the Dell Outlet, which is Dell's refurbished system sales site. The laptop configuration I bought at the Dell Outlet for $549, would have cost nearly $800 if I'd bought it from the regular Dell website, as it had built-in webcam, bluetooth, wifi. The refurbed systems are usually returns which have gone back thru the Dell factory process, and have the same warantee as a new system. I'm a network admin in my day job, and have a few consulting clients on the side, and I always suggest they get any new systems they need thru the Outlet. I've personally bought 5 machines from there, and never had a problem.. And no, I don't work for Dell, just like their systems... Tas
