Hello all
I hope someone can help me since I keep having this problem since weeks now...
Whenever I log in to SL, my computer just restarts itself. Sometimes I can stay on for 10mins or more, other times I can't even get onto the log-in page. I only have this with SL.
Since I'm running Windows XP I tried to search for a tool that logs my crashes. This is what Dr. Watson tells me as the app. error: C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SLVoice.exe c0000005 ntdll!wtol(7C936A6E)
What I did before to try to solve the prob: * cleaned all dust from inside my computer * made sure my computer doesn't restart itself by unchecking diff. settings but as you see, it still does * re-installed SL viewer 1-22-11-113941; I tried upgrading to the most recent one but it had issues; I forgot what the issues were though but it made me downgrade again. * Upgraded Firefox to the most recent one * checked CPU & GPU temperatures; all looks fine * cleaned disks & defragged
I had the same prob some weeks ago for the first time... I then dusted the comp out and put the graphics on SL to the recommanded settings. It went fine for some days. Now having the same issue, dusting and graphic settings won't help
I'm on a Packard Bell Computer Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.06Ghz with 2Gb RAM; running Windows XP Home edition 2002 SP2 I'm using wireless internet connection - 54 MBps - Firefox 3.5.2 My graph card = NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS
Please tell me if you need more info; I'm not really a computergeek so don't know much.
Thx in advance for the help!

I would try these things: 1. Clear the cache. Use SL's clear cache function in Edit > Preferences> Networking first, if that doesn't help, go into the Windows explorer and delete the files by hand. 2. Surface scan of your hard drive. 3. Test the memory. There are free memory diagnostic programs available like Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp4. Update Windows and drivers. Don't let Windows update your drivers, go to the manufactuers' web sites for any hardware updates you might need. Make a restore point before doing this in case something goes horribly wrong and you need to go back. 5. If you don't use voice, remove the voice component slvoice.exe. Move the file to the desktop and see if that helps.

The computer restarting itself indicates something major is likely causing your problem. The cause could be your graphics card itself failling, bad memory module(s), or something in your XP itself corrupted. Milla's suggestion for testing your memory would help find out if that is your problem. If you can get a hold of another video card and temporarily install it in your computer that might tell you if it's your card. And you might try a system restore to a date a few days before your problems started might help determine if your XP has some system files corrupted.
Did you have a hard crash of your system shortly before you problem started? Maybe a power failure or some other unexpected shut down of your system. And two other things to check. Run a full anti virus scan and anti maleware scan............it's not likely to be the problem but both can cause varying, unexpected problems including unexpected restarts of the system.

heat can cause a system to restart too, and SL generates plenty of it, check all fans and blow out dust
