HELP! Can't pass logon screen

I've tried 5 times to log on to SL, but as soon as I see the welcome screen with the 4 buttons (connect/prefs/quit/...) the application hangs. I can't C/A/Del my way out of it, and I can't quit or access the prefs either.

Earlier I enabled "AGP graphics acceleration" in the SL prefs to see if it speeded things up (no real need, just curious), and since then I haven't been able to log on. Is there a way of accessing that setting without having to go into the program itself?

I have a Dell D600 which usually works perfectly - I've never had this problem before. I've cleaned up the Windows and IE temp files, run a chkdsk - still broken.

Please help - I'm missing my friends :-(

Freya.

You could try uninstalling then reinstalling SL.

It'll ruin your cache but will fix any settings issues.

Alternatively, you could dive into the SL directory and start tampering.

<It'll ruin your cache>

Is that a problem? What will I lose?

Just preloaded textures and sounds... will mean you have to reload them again... which you'll have to do from tomorrow anyway since a cache-flush comes as a freebie with every update.

OK, I'll try it. Thank you for replying - I'm unexpectedly worried about not being able to get in! :-)
