What's Up With The Physics Engine?

Lately I have noticed....
!!!!!THE SECOND LIFE PHYSICS ENGINE IS COMPLETELY SHOT!!!!!
WHY I THINK THIS IS: *When firing a second life weapon, bullets propel for about 5 meters... then stop in mid air. *Vehicles don't work *Physical objects aren't physical even on ground level *llMoveToTarget function doesn't work *llSetStatus(STATUS_PHYSICS, TRUE) doesn't help ethier *Being a professional scripter, builder, and mad scientist... I'M GOING MAD
How To Test It For Yourself: *Try to drive a car in several different sims that enable scripting, building, etc... yea, it's not moving. *Rez a prim on the ground and raise it up, then make it physical... yea, it's not dropping. *Go into a combat sim and suppress fire in front of you, then walk forward... yea, your dead.
Does anyone know whats going on?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

/me goes inworld and makes a cube physical; it drops with a thud.
I'm not experiencing this - can it be possible to turn physics off for yourself as in anti-griefing wear only moreso?

It seems to be working ok for me too. Cars drive, guns shoot, bullets move and bounce, physics enabled objects fall.
You haven't managed to log in to an OpenSim sim have you?

I was using Emerald Viewer, and I guess it messed everything up.
::NOTE-TO-SELF:: For physics testing... don't use Emerald >.>

Thank you for posting your findings, Undala. I love it when we hear the last part of the story.

I've not had any trouble with physics using the Emerald viewer.

Physics is server-side. There is no client feature that can change the way the Havok4 engine works. (^_^)
Some of the symptoms you're seeing are valid. (^_^)
The bounding around a physical prim is larger than the prim itself, so one rezzed on the 'floor' will elevate a bit when turned physical. (^_^)
A bullet stall is probably due to someone teleporting into the sim. Sims can completely stall for up to 6 and 10 seconds while someone is teleporting in. This is more a Mono scripting issue than the physics engine. Though, physics is taken on for the lag-ride as well. (^_^)
Vehicles work... Just be careful crossing a simline with one. Particularly if your avatar has a large inventory. (^_^)
Wait for bullets to llDie before advancing. Even while not in motion, if they're set to cause damage, damage they will cause. (^_^)y

I've been seeing some weird things for the last month or so. In particular, I've got a rezzer wand thing which drops physical stuff - sheeps, safes, chickens, stuff - on people and sometimes the objects sorta stall after they've dropped about 1m. It's strange because they seem to come to a smooth halt - it's not an abrupt stop but a smooth one, like a target move but happens much faster. It's hard to explain.
I've seen this a few times and the problem just goes away after a bit. No idea how to repro it.

Sounds like you have "physical object interceptors" on.

From: Day Oh Sounds like you have "physical object interceptors" on. Brevity may be the sole of wit, but it's not always the most desirable attribute of those responding in a forum. Please elaborate.

Please elaborate. I dunno, it's in the preferences somewhere... under "shields?" It selects everything automatically to make them stop moving.

I see a post in the Emerald forums at http://modularsystems.sl/index.php?option=com_agora&task=topic&id=607&p=1&Itemid=2#p3071with the following exchange in a discussion about why there is no read only version of the source code until after a build is released: Phox wrote: "It's not security by obscurity, there are simply pieces of code in the repository that are not appropriate for public viewing." trinitydejavu wrote: "Why?" Phox wrote: "Because they are features that were either rejected, or code that was accidentally committed. For example, client object interceptors, which would allow a person to "turn off" physics in an entire sim."

Sounds a little like that bug they are working on where a sim freezes when someone with a lot of scripts and attachments TPs in.
Are you testing your physics in a sim where people come and go a lot?
