My buddy has a NON USB headset. When he tries talking I hear a lot of LOUD white noise and his voice very very faintly. However, in setup he gets 3-4 green boxes as if all was normal.
I'm stumped. What could be causing this?

Okay, now it's working but every sound his computer makes is broadcast. Even windows sounds. It's not an echo, but it's like... every little sound his soundcard makes it transmits... please help!

Depending on the OS, make sure in the recording tab of the sound card mixer, he doesn't have 'Wave Mix' selected as a recording source, this 'mixes' all sounds from the soundboard. In preferences (SL client), open the device window in the Voice tab, and use the drop down boxes to select the actual sound board he is using and not 'Default'.
