I can't get the client to start. When I start up, it never even gets to the sign in screen, it just stays at the loading screen forever. I tried rebooting, I tried reinstalling, I tried UNINSTALLING, then installing it again, I even tried an entirely different client. Nothing is working, what could be causing this?

No, I can't even get in the login screen, I can't get anywhere at all, as soon as double click it it stays stuck on the loading box.

SL can hang itself in background, but then youd get a error instead of error load anyway so thats not it, forever load may be auto detect probing your pc specs , but never heard of it fail and foreverload.

There is a parameter -noprobe ,if they didnt remove that to, to go past probing your pc to set up settings automaticly, not sure if it would do squat tho.

Copy the SL shortcuit, to a new one, edit it, right click then properties,

In that box, shortcuit, go to target, and way at that long line add -noprobe , and close it (ok),, try that shortcuit see if anything happen.

May be SL dont like your pc tho and freeze up , youre not on a intel vid card i hope, may be that SL cant start cause of something hardware related to, hard to tell without pc specs, firewall may kick in to and block SL, not sure if it would cause forever load like this though.

Check your firewall settings. For me it sounds like the client can't connect to the servers.

Thing is, SL has been running just FINE for about two weeks now, this just suddenly started happening today. I tried the shortcut thing, didn't work.

There is one thing. In the past, this computer has randomly glitched out and crashed a few times, and even If I restarted, it would keep doing it, sometimes before it would boot. Seemingly the only remedy to this strange problem is letting it sit there, off, for a little while.

It did it again today, for the first time in a long time, and I think I know why. It ONLY does that when I play TES IV: Oblivion for an extended period of time. That's exactly what I did today, for the first time in months, and SL hasn't been working since.

SL changes versions, if firewall is set auto it can pick it up as suspicious and block it without asking, so id check there anyway.

When i think of it , i seen this load forever thing before, when you log in and they changed something in ToS , you should get a menu thing to accept/decline, but i seen that just hang itself instead a few times.

Usually only when i use a -login paramater tho, you dont use that on SL shortcuit right.

You tried both clients? and they both do it?

I tried the OnRez client (the one I use) and the default Second Life client.

So it can't be anything wrong with the client....

And I have already disabled my firewall.

Damia

are you using a router?

If so does it also have a firewall?

I had to setup a profile in my router for SL along with my pc's firewall to allow it to connect.
