Double Taxation

I'm probably just misunderstanding something, but it appears to me that I'm getting taxed too often. About twice a week, I get an updates accounting history and a change in my cash account.

I wrote down some info from the last three accountings:

1/4 $4078
as of 12/28/02

1/9 3626
as of 1/2/03

1/11 4167
as of 1/4/03

Basically the same thing has been happening since I signed up in Second Life. At first I wasn't sure what was normal, so I didn't make notes.

Like I said, maybe this is normal, and I'm just not understanding how the system works. Maybe these are Linden weeks, not RL weeks that govern the stipend accounting.

Any ideas?

It looks like you were getting your taxes and stipends on different days (a prince on Saturday, a pauper on Wednesday), and each change would trigger a display of your account history that showed a 7-day history. The account history window ALWAYS shows the last 7 days, even if you've already seen some of the transactions before, and the starting balance that it displays is as of 7 days ago. I can see how this can be confusing.

As part of our latest round of changes to the tax/stipend system, we altered the timing of taxes to bring them back into sync with stipends, and keep them that way. So for this week, some people are going to have to pay taxes a little early, some a little late. But, henceforth stipends and taxes should always happen simultaneously.

We also intend to make your account history a little less obtuse, but I can't give a timeline or feature set for that yet.

Thanks for the explanation, Ian. And I'm glad you guys are planning on getting those things synchronized. Predictable pay periods will make it easier for me to budget.
