What happened to my AV?

I logged in on SUnday night, and my AV is totally different - very ugly looking.

I go to where it is kept in my inventory and all I see is "New Shape" which is not what I named it, originally.

I have not logged on since Friday. Did someone break into my account? Is there any way the Lindens can look into the logs to see if anyone was on my account?

I highly doubt it was hacked. I have seen avies disappear through an inventory glitch never to be seen again. It's happened to me and to at least 3 friends I can think of right off the top of my head. So it can't be that uncommon.

I'd contact the Lindens. And I'd be really sad if you had lost your avie, Krikket, because she truly was a gorgeous little thing to look at. :(

Given the evident volitility of attachments, (specifically, linked attachments) and avatar shapes, I like to keep regular backups of this stuff. If one of them "goes bad" --and they do-- you can just delete the old one and copy a new backup.

Every since my horrible newbie day of opening a box and suddenly finding myself 2 seconds later as a bald, bearded male (which would be fine except I am a long haired female that I've spent hours working on) - I keep more than one copy of my AV.

I also boxed it up and gave it to my partner so that if something happened to my inventory, he still has a copy of my AV.

In addition, I've boxed up my more important inventory items (that were transferable) and gave them to him.

It's not a bad idea to have a copy of things.

THX Kris, you're very kind - I have a copy of my face, but the body is way out of wack - im not sure how long ago that copy was made..

But, there should be a way for them to check if anyone accessed my account, right?

I opened up a ticket, but so far no word from the Lindens.

Hmmm.. I opened up a ticket last Tuesday on something else, and no response from them on that either. How long does it take them to accss tickets, on the average?

Are you recieving ANY emails from them? Maybe it's your spam filters. Me, I usually get the autoresponse within a few minutes of reporting a bug, and depending on (I presume) workload and which Lindens (bah, "family"!) are actually in the office that day, it's usually followed within a few days with "we are aware of the problem, but I don't have any timeframe on when it might be fixed" or a "wow, good catch" or "oh god, don't tell Philip about this until after we've patched the server".

Is actually getting a response unusual? I'd be willing to consider the usual, "shut up, Catherine, the Lindens are favouring you again" response, but Kelly's ALWAYS sent me a "yeah, we're looking into it" message, since he started doing it. He didn't have TIME to figure out how awesome I am. :)

It ranges from very quickly if you are Catherine to months or never depending on the whims of LL.

I would not suspect hacking as a first guess. Random inventory corruption (including your AV) has been a chronic, apparently insoluble problem for a really long time. A malicious hacker would be far more likely to drain your wallet and release your land than screw with your AV.

Of course I could note that the oft repeated request to allow export of objects for off-line backup has never been addressed but that would just be silly.

mebbe just a weird inventory glitch - but I noticed that my breast slider was increased by about 20, and my body size was skinnier - could be some pervert.. :P

what really worries me is if the person transferred my shape to someone else. i dont want any clones of myself running around sl. I would almost prefer losing my land and money to something like that.

on the other hand, if I or one of my friends sees someone similar in appearance - it would be easy to nab that person.

i wish that the lindens could at least tell me if I transferred something to someone on those dates. it would make me (and the rest of us who fear hackers) feel much less vulnerable.
