I can't connect to SL when choosing "My Home" or "Last Location" as my start location. It logs me in, initializes multimedia, connects to region, but then freezes on Loading World, and I eventually get the crash screen after that.
Here's what I've tried for fixing this issue:
Clear Cache Delete the SecondLife folder in AppData Uninstall Delete every entry regarding SecondLife in the registry Reinstall
Still end up with the same problem
I did find a workaround for this, but I'd really like it to work as it should.
The workaround: Checked the "Show Start Location on Login Screen" box, type in something random - seems to only work if what I type isn't actually a SL location. I usually just type in the number 1. Then after I log in, I get a message saying "Your desired location is not currently available. You have been moved into a nearby region". The particular location seems to vary, but at least I get in.
Not sure when or why this began. I've just been dealing with it for a few days now, but it's starting to get annoying.
Any other suggestions?

Try typing in a real sim location in SL. Try Philudoria (my sim and it's a quiet one). Then tp home. Log out and then try logging in using your home location.
I'm thinking that random number trick is just putting you at random places in the grid. I don't know why that would make a difference but maybe using a real location might break the cycle for you.

Thanks, Peggy, for that suggestion.
I just tried it, with the same result. Froze up on Loading World, ended up with the Second Life Crash Logger.

Are you using the official LL viewer, and if so what version? Have you done anything like try to enable shadows?
If you're using an ATI graphics adapter, in the ATI Catylist Control Center, disable Advanced AI.

You know I think I had this problem for a short time a couple years ago. It's been a long time and I've slept a couple times so my memory may be a little off. I forget exactly how I got it to quit but I do remember going somewhere (a different sim from my home loacation) and setting home to there. I probably did that just to be able to log in without winding up in some strange place but eventually I set my home back to my house in Philudoria and everything was back to normal. As I said this was a couple years ago (at least). It was during the tme when LL was doing quite a few server updates with rolling restarts across the entire grid so during the time I had my home set to a club that allowed home to be set my sim could have been restarted. Not sure what fixed it.........the setting of home to another location, then setting to back to my house or a sim restart that happened in the same time frame.
In the mean time, try setting your home to somewhere besides your present home (a different sim) then going to your real home and setting it back...........it's shot in the dark but maybe it will fix it for you. Now, I must say, my home is on Mainland.....but I can't see where it would make a difference if your home is on Estate land. You might try asking for a sim restart........if you are on Mainland put in a support ticket . If on Estate land contact the Estate owner.
Right now, I'm out of more ideas.
