Hi,
I am a very new member. I have only had one build of the client. I have had problems off and on with the client telling me when I try to login, that it cannot locate the server(gives the name address, which I do not remember). Now I have a very major problem. When I try to login, when the client gets to the "downloading inventory" It locks halfway though. I have to hard reboot to get out of it. I had this problem for about 24 hours and it went away. I played a few hours, then changed my appearance. It locked when I did this, and has been doing the same login lockup as before. I have tried uninstalling the client and then reinstalling, with the same results. It its now on around 15 hours and I still locks up at the "downloading Inventory" screen. I have sent numerous crash reports and bug report. Wondered if I was the only one having this problem, but I have seen a few posts in various threads that had something similar. If anyone has any suggestions(be nice:P) please let me know. I can not keep interest up in the game if I cannot get in most of the time.

System Configuration:
Alienware 1.7 gighertz p4
750+meg O' ram
two 100 gig harddrives
Radeon 9700 (3.1 cat drivers)

It does not appear to be on my end, although maybe there is something I am missing. It almost seems like my data on the server corrupts, because of it locking up when I save my appearance. As I said, I do a uninstall/reinstall and get the same lockup. <cry>

Hey, Random -

There are a few things that you might want to try:

First, you'll want to see if you have the latest AGP drivers for your motherboard - upgrading the AGP drivers often fixes stability issues for us.

Secondly, is any part of your system overclocked? We have found in the past that people who have overclocked parts of their system definitely tend to crash more often than people who haven't - Second Life can exercise quite a few pieces of your system that aren't normally exercised - simultaneously.

There's information in our support section about upgrading AGP drivers in the Knowledge Base under Technical Support

Hi again,
I have the latest bios for my motherboard, and alienware does not overclock their hardware, so no, everything is standard component, but they are highend.
Thanks,
random

The pc runs fine not in game. I load up down load inventory. I get my who is IW and IMs. I am in game maybe 1 min after then it freeze up the only what out is to restart. Does this sound like the processor is to fast for the motherboard? I haven't changed the clock time. Is the graphic card doing it?

Random -

AGP drivers are different from BIOS updates - are you sure you got the AGP driver updates? I tried to see what Alienware had on their site, unfortunately, I can't get into that section without creating a username and login. For an Intel chipset based motherboard, Intel has them at

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/

Also, Random, since you're running a Radeon, I would suggest trying to restart with your SmartGART settings turned all the way down. It's under the advanced panel on your Display tab (I don't remember exactly where, and I don't have access to an ATI right now...)

Let me know if any of this helps...

You may also want to try doing a full uninstall/reinstall of the Second Life client, just for kicks It might be that somehow some files got corrupted on a previous crash.

Also, when you have managed to log into SL in the past, have you experienced packet loss (left hand graph of the two bar graphs in the lower right corner)? The fact that you were sometimes unable to log into SL in the past may mean that something may be wrong with the network configuration of your network or your ISP's...

Hmm, Nyna, that sounds like it's possibly some sort of AGP issue, similar to Random's. Do you know what kind of motherboard you have? If you have an Intel-chipset based one, you can try downloading the drivers from Intel's website using the link I gave to Random.

I've only got one crash report from you in the last couple of days - if you make sure that one gets sent the next time you crash, I should be able to debug the problem better...

hey Doug! I did the divers nothing changed. I figured if I am locking up and not in game, it must be some something other then the game doing it. I removed one of the ram disks it was marked differently then the others. This brought me down to 340. I think this one must have be bad. I am in game and not locking up.
YEAH! THank you for all your help it is nice to kno wwhen your going through withdrawl you can ask for help and recive an actual imployee that understands the games ins and out to help. I am it to the 4th in time for the fireworks. I met up with Alexis and inbetween crashes as you have seen from my many crash reports now. I managed to transfer all of the items they needed.
