Time has come for me to get a new computer. so much new stuff out there not sure whats good an not good to run Sl on . I stuck getting a Dell since thats were i have credit through .
one that i was looking at that seems good for the price is Studio XPS900 and has:

Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
Intel® Core™ i7-920 processor(8MB L3 Cache, 2.66GHz)
3GB DDR3 Tri-Channel SDRAM at 1066MHz - 3 DIMMs
500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
nVidia GeForce GTX 260 1792MB

Core i7 is the newest generation of Intel processors: the base CPU on that model is more than enough to run SL and just about any game you throw at it. The GTX 260 is a very strong video card...probably the best value at the moment for running SL...it will easily run everything at max settings. The only thing I would do is increase the memory to 6 GB. Dell wants to sell that as 6x1GB, but on the phone you may get them to configure that as 3x2GB, or if you are not afraid to install memory yourself (it is very easy) you can pick up 3x1GB at Newegg for $64 (Dell charges $120 for the same upgrade) or 3x2GB for $141, only slightly more than Dell wants for 6GB.

Not that 3 GB is bad, but SL uses lots of memory, and having at least 4GB is best. In this case I would keep 3 or 6 memory cards because triple-channel provides a decent performance boost.

Seems like this is a great question that the folks at Secondlife haven't updated in a long time. They don't even have an updated "supported" graphics card list. I wonder if they WILL EVER update that list....

At any rate...seems to me the faster, the more memory, and a decent NVIDIA graphics card is the way to go with SL. The only thing people have kidded themselves into beleiving is that their rocket fast "GAME" machine will run SL the same way. The one consistent thing I see is that if you want SL to perform, then stay as far away from ATI graphics as possible. Sure, they may run an "Optimized" game well, but has an asthma attack when trying to run SL.

Technology changes daily, so what you get today ultimately will suck 6 months from now...but hopefully SL wont change enough to hurt your experience :).
