I know there are a gazillion contributing factors to FPS. But, can I just get a basic, unscientific, average FPS poll from everyone. Let's say after you been sitting in one spot for a few minutes and all the textures have loaded. And not a lot of AVs around. I need to figure out how badly I need a new system.... I am at 8fps. blech Note: ALT-1 to get the display up.

Might I suggest you pick a spot in-game for people to stand and specify the direction they look? My land in Olive gives me dramatically different framerates depending on if I look north (out to sea) or south (at all the other builds).

I am at 8fps. blech Between 6 and 60 fps here, depending on exactly where I am and what I'm looking at.

My entirely unscientific, anecdotal discussions seem to show that 15 FPS average is the modal rate. As others have noted, it is very location dependent, and scrooge-like this may sound, but the snow generators in the world seem to have a big impact on frame rete of late (but they are pretty). Thinking of holiday present to self?

Humbug! Humbug to the snow-generators. There's one on the border of Natoma/Zoe that spews out particles like anything. Thing is, they seem to go invisible after a short distance, but continue to radiate out anyway. If I teleport home to Zoe, I can see all these grey, textureless particles whizzing past me before the transparency loads. Is it a pre-1.1 particle script?
Anyway, it's causing serious framerate problems for the residents of four sims. I wonder if Mr. Simon Metalhead (if I recall the name correctly) would kindly turn it off.

I checked my FPS yesterday.
1.1 was all over the place form 20-48 fps, but usuaaly hovered at 45.
1.2 was pretty consistent from 35-38 fps.

What the heck are you using for a graphics card? For me, 1.2 never went above 15 fps, but it never went below 5, either -- even with a crowd around.

Last night I was near Gibson. If I faced Nexus Prime, my fps was about 6, if I looked towards Luna, it was 15.
1.2 preview, my fps range was 28 in crowed areas and 50+ otherwise.

The biggest factor in FPS is the CPU speed, and the second is the amount of system memory. Most of the grunt work of rendering is handled by the system itself, not the video card (because no video card has the massive amount of processing capability that SL requires).
So, assuming you have a video card that at least meets minimum specs, if you've maxed out your Ram and still get pathetic frame rates...it's time for a faster CPU. Even a bleeding edge video card won't solve the problem.
