Just a warning for everyone --something is terribly wrong with umber, we think its something to do with terrain we can't seem to edit, *LOCAL* fps is about 2-4-- even with scripts, particles, volume, and characters off----
IN the meantime, please submit bug reports so maybe some data can be collected to figure it out on LLs end~
or, if you have any ideas for me you think I could try (besides returning everything but 2 cubes and a tree) let me know! I'll do anything to help the situation

--and I am sooo sorry to the shoppers for this inconvenience.

Another thing to note - sometimes the problem randomly disappears and its fine for a period of time. But it seems to always come back again. Once the local client fps gets tp 2 fps its pretty much unplayable. Also when it does this the Ping times shoot up to the tens of thousands (but oddly there is no noticeable packet loss - its just extreme lag).

Yes. The best we get is a scratched head and a promise to look into it.

Meanwhile the sim chugs along at 14,000 ms ping times and < 1 fps...

yes and for the record, we have auto delete on, we've tried turning off scripts, we've tried no AOs, we've redone our textures to 256x256... and even with all that, ...and not rendering volume, character, alpha, trees, particles, surfacepatch.. still has that problem :( I'm just having a problem getting it addressed... and I understand that.. not knowing what is causing it.. seems to happen when someone enters the sim, but not always... and sometimes its ok up in the skybox, sometimes its not.. totally intermittent. but LL sent the following
"The next time you see the low FPS:
1) Open your Statistics (Alt-1), open Advanced, open Texture and note what GL Mem and Bound Mem values are. Also tell me what your Video Card Memory is set to in your preference.

2) Look in different directions and see if you there is a particular building or avatar that causes the low framerate.

3) Relog and see if you still have low framerate. Does it happen immediately, or does it take a while? How long?"

which i would like to get, but when 2fps occurs i cant open find to get a linden, my snapshots never load, and looking around is incredibly difficult.. so if anyone wants to help maybe get LL a wide spectrum of samples.. please file a bug report with me

Yeah this is what amazes me - I also once turned off literally every rendering feature in debug - there was
nothing on the screen and it was still giving that 2fps or less framerate. Something just isn't right.

It would help if you told us what exactly is causing the problem.
Quoting Kelly Linden:
"SimFPS is just the equation 1 / (sum of all the stats with an ms on it from the alt-1 menu)." So what helps pinpoint the cause of lag is the stat with the highest time slice.
You can see a number of times on the alt-1 dialog, and all of them are more helpful than just the sim fps. From memory:
Run Tasks is the amount of time a sim spends processing scripts.
Run Agents is the time spent on users.
Run Physics is the time spent on physical objects.
Which of these goes through the roof?
Can you document the frequency with which this happens? Is it at random? Once a day? Once per hour?

...

Uh...

You DO know that the sim FPS has abso-freakin'-loutely nothing to do with what you're rendering, right? It's your CLIENT'S FPS that those are related to.

Yes, but the reverse is not true. You misread Devyn. He clearly stated he was talking about client FPS, which can be affected by more than just rendering. Something must be puffing one heck of a lot of updates out there.

Molecular - yes, I'm fully aware of that, and both Mistress and I are talking about the local client FPS as can be seen in our previous posts. Sim FPS has generally been remaining just fine and dandy throughout all of this.

Eggy - If we knew the cause of the problem this would be a lot less frustrating. :) And in regards to more detailed analysis / gathering of the stats - I will try to do that as time permits. But it would be great if Linden Lab can get a tester or two on the case to help us out. We aren't professional software testers / troubleshooters here, they are. And with the amount of money Mistress is paying LL for a whole sim.. she deserves to have it looked into and made to work properly.

Sorry, when I read the word "local" I assumed it meant as in a location or locality. Didn't realize "local" had nothing to do with position.

No worries.. I can understand the confusion. I used the term in the "client / server" - "local / remote" sense. We probably should just say "client fps" from here out to simplify.

Devynn What Debug settings are you refering to? I'm looking for a way to force AGP accelleration as the latest catalyst drivers fixed SL's crap issues.

ctrl alt shift D :)
and ugh, i dunno. the ping goes to 20,000 miliseconds..
and no. its not scripts, i had a few days of scripts turned off, and yes that means AO too.
(so to the person flaming the AO scripter i say 'neener neener')
it is the same problem, seems to happen when someone comes into the sim.
beyond the AOs, the only other scripts were the reverie sit scripts, which don't do much, and the vendor scripts, which,.. i only know of 6.. 4 of changelings, and 2 of stampshadys.. i found zero problems with this..
walking around with updates on, i only see the lovely blue updates coming from aimee's wings (which arent that much) hehe
..i hope this helps!

If you are experiencing ping issues, then post a traceroute.
You can do this (under XP/2000) by pressing Start, Run, typing cmd, pressing Enter or Ok, and then typing tracert simXXX.agni.lindenlab.com where XXX is the sim you are currently in.
You can get the simulator's adress from Help|About...
If done right, you should see a command line like:
C:\>tracert sim123.agni.lindenlab.com
After pressing Enter you should see an output like:

Tracing route to sim123.agni.lindenlab.com [66.150.245.59]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 26 ms 19 ms 29 ms 195.245.152.155

As an aside, the bad framerate ONLY happens when there's bad lag (several thousand ms pings). Which makes little sense to me, because video cards don't process network stuff, but then, I'm not a programmer.

I have been investigating this problem a bit. The server itself has statistically been running great for a long time. When I connect a viewer to the sim, the client fps are somewhat slow, but that is usally a content problem in the area - perhaps too many textures or too many torus primitives. I stayed in Umber for about half an hour to see if there was a rampent viewer memory leak, but could not find one.

If you have more details of how this happens, such as a particular place in umber where the viewer slows down, I would love to investigate further.

As for ping/lag/framerate - the current network code is on the same thread as the rendering code, so slow client framerate will lead to high round-trip ping times.

Someone referred me here. I have a similar problem, but it occurs everywhere. Within a minute, frame rate drops to almost nothing. ObjectUpdate is usually taking up >50% of time according to alt-2. After a teleport, things clear up, but it rapidly worsens again as I move the camera...
