Will SL run on this card? I read different forums and it might be as good as or better then geforce 9600. BUT if SL is not compatible with it I`m screwed. Someone said it is a to new card to work.l woud be really thankful for answers from ppl with more knowledge than me or have that card. I dont want to buy another laptop that dont work with SL
I appreciate IM in game too
*edit* there are hardly any laptops avaible with geforce graphics card anymore

From: Notebookcheck The Nvidia GeForce GT 130M is a DirectX 10 graphics card for notebooks and technically a higher clocked GeForce 9650M GT with a lower current consumption
No reason why it shouldn't, although if it isn't recognized you may need to manually set the graphics quality.

The video card being tauted as a "directX10 graphics" card actually means very little for a program that uses OpenGL graphics.......Second Life is one such program. However nVidia cards do seem to have an edge over ATI in OpenGL support so the nvidia card should work with SL. How good might be another question entirely. Not exactly sure how nVidia's model numbering relates to performance since they changed that up a couple months ago but GT 130M would seem to me to be a rather low end card (using the older system as a guide to where any card would fall in terms of performance). First number is the series and second number is where within that series the card falls in performance. And the "M" is always an iffy thing when trying to run SL.

I don't know this card but the 2xx series do run it and well . the 1xx I am not sure I know the 250 (or is it one of the others is just a re named 9800GTX+ for the most part)
The performance of the GT 130M should be somewhere near the 9650M GS. Therefore high end games like GTA 4 and Crysis wont run in high settings, but less demanding games (like Lef 4 Dead) should run fluently in high settings. (so SL to you "should" be able to run high maybe mid for good Frame rates GTA 4 is well the 9800GTX= has issues! ) But it should run SL maybe as well as a GT 9600m witch should be at least as good as this 8600m .. lap top get a good cooler fans under it! I have burnt 3 sets of 30 USD cooling fan pads in the past year up gaming with the laptop
This laptops card 8600m runs SL in Ultra but in High runs better (not lately though LOL )

Sorry if the Direct X 10 part was distracting...the important part is that the GT 130M is just a 9650 that has been die-shrunk and overclocked, but the chipset is identical to the 9650, which can run SL.

Are we talking about nVidia cards or ATI? I've never heard of a 9550 or a 9650 nVidia card. 9500 or 9600.......yeah those are nVidia card models. Not especially powerful cards but fully capable of running SL. But I don't know what you are referring to now.

The OP is asking about the nVidia GT 130m, which is essentially an nVidia 9650m with higher clocks. Both mid-range cards capable of running SL.

yes I know..........and the OP has been told that the card in question is likely to be able to run SL. The question now seems to be "how well".............and that is up in the air. Mid to high settings....maybe. It just depends on what the OP expects. The card being in a laptop makes performance on any card a question mark.......unless the laptop is a very high end gamers computer. And a high end gamer laptop will not have a low, or even mid range video card in it.

I'm sorry...I missed that question. I do seem to recall someone saying that it should be fully capable of running SL. Did that answer your question?

From: Veritable Quandry I'm sorry...I missed that question. I do seem to recall someone saying that it should be fully capable of running SL. Did that answer your question? Yes, posts number 2, 3, 4, and 6 have all said the card should work for SL. I've only qualified that a little by stating that since the card in question is a low to mid range card the performance may be lacking a little........in fact probably would.
