On 1.20.17, I am seeing frequent client freezes of 5-20 seconds duration. I can use other, older clients with no problem, so I don't think it's anything in my computing environment. Is anyone else seeing this?

I specify PCs because the MACs appear to have a similar problem that is unique to them, and quite widespread.

The frequency seems the same, whether I'm in a class 5 sim with excellent stats and only one other avatar present, or in a crowded sim. I do use voice often, and haven't characterized whether it correlates at all to voice usage.

My desktop is a pretty good machine:
Second Life 1.20.17 (98669) Oct 5 2008 10:25:42 (Second Life Release)

Second Life Server 1.24.9.98659

CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2713 MHz)

OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation

And all temperatures appear within normal:

I had no problems at all with the new client.

I run Restrained Life Viewer 1.20.17

The only issue i have had, once, are my HUD objects not detaching.

I have been having problems with freezes/very slow frame rates with the latest security update and the version that immediately preceded it. When I first teleport to a sim it works fine, but after a while it starts to get laggy, especially when panning or turning my avatar. It keeps getting worse until the client is showing about one frame every 5 seconds. It may improve temporarily after a minute and then get worse again. I have tried reducing my settings in the graphics options tab, which I think may help somewhat, but I don't remember seeing freezing/lag this bad with similar graphics settings in any of the earlier clients. Or maybe the earlier clients would just crash before it could get this bad. I don't see as many crashes with the new client, but this freeze/lag problem is just as bad since it makes SL unplayable.

I have a PC, Pentium 4 CPU 3.4GHz, 3 GB RAM, and a Radeon X1600 display adapter.

I'm running WinXP SP3. I'm wondering if SP3 is part of the problem.

Slowdown happens when I open for example the Search window. Then sometimes even items on my land don't appear.

Beware of winamp!

Thanks all! I found something that eliminates most freezes, but it puzzles me.

I have Winamp on my system, and it has never conflicted with SL until 1.20.17 (actually, I'm not sure which RC this began with; I only load them occasionally). I decided to try eliminating all lurking background applications one by one to see if any were conflicting with SL, and when I killed the Winamp Agent, SL improved greatly.

I then re-enabled Winamp Aent, and sure enough, 1.20.17 sucked, and 1.19 Nicholaz was fine.

Winamp agent just hangs out and waits for files to be accessed that Winamp may be authorized to process. While I can see possibilities for conflict with SL, I am puzzled at why that would start with this particular version.

But anyway, things are much better now (except that there's a fairly tragic memory leak in 1.20 still).

Nika, this freezing isnt really a bug of the client as far as I know.

It is the SIM and its lag, I have this often on some places like some Sandboxes

It freezes me some seconds while I cannot do anything, sometimes 5 or 10 secs or even longer. If this happens on a SIM visit another and see if this happens there too.
