For unexplained reasons Second Life unexpectedly crashes. Sometimes it is 45 minute into a visit, other times 5 minutes. Sometimes I can have repetitive crashes, making it tough to participate. I believe I meet all the system requirements. Is there anything else I can do to improve the quality and stop (or reduce) the crashing?

If it's actually crashing your PC, the problem will almost always be a bad driver or bad hardware..

Simply meeting the minimum requirements as listed on the website is not enough. Those are the same minimum requirements that were listed 3 years ago when I first downloaded and installed SL...........they were more than just a little optimistic even back then. Second Life is not a game for the low end or older computers........way too much for those machines to successfully deal with.
A listing of your computer specs including your operation system would help a great deal in your gaining any help here. At a bare minimum your requirements would be a CPU that has a speed of 1.5 ghz, 1 gig of system RAM, operating system of XP SP2, a graphics card with 256 megs onboard VRAM capable of running OpenGL 2.0, a connection speed of at least 1mbps, and a hardwired connection to the internet (wireless is more often than not flakey).
Those specs are what I would recommend, at a minimum. And even with that you probably still would have problems.

What're your system specs? Because I'm having the exact same problem.
It's totally inconsistent too; my computer freezes completely within same time restrain as well, while rarely I can stay logged in for hours if lucky. Yesterday I stayed online without any problems, and today, I froze three times consecutively in about 45 seconds or so.
