I'm another one who is considering dumping my Openspace due to the price increases and unknown tech limits which they have still not worked out yet.

And yes, I know it's amazing that we seem to be heading into a scenario where LL are increasing the price by a giant amount and reducing the product at the same time.

But anyway......................

What software do I need to I may have my own sim (Openspace) running just on my PC at home that I can log into as my private space still without any connection to LL ?

At least then I can still have my physical space that I may experiment and built in, and (I guess) could then pull content I make there into SL using some method?

Also, is there anyway 1 other person could remotly log into my PC and also be in MY own world with me from time to time?

Any advice as to what software I need (Servers and Clients settings/setup) would be most helpful :)

And just what IS and IS NOT possible regarding this idea.

Many Thanks.

This is what I played around with for awhile before I got bored:

Open Simulator
http://opensimulator.org/

You'll find most of the answers to your questions there.

But why did you get bored?

There are a number of easy to use local servers available. To name 2, check out 3DX Studio Server and realXtend Server. They both run under Windows and use a straight forward installation.

As LL doesn't allow to post links to the growing competition you may have to ask our friend Google to show you the way :)

One sim + only me = bored.

My ISP makes it nearly impossible to access my system from the outside world; so no one else could visit me. T_T

You also get a very good impression as to how small a sim really is when you're trapped on one.

I probably should update my system and see if anything's changed. Maybe even attempt to setup my own grid of four sims just to see if I can.

OpenSim (not Open Space) is pretty cool in all it's variations.
I got pretty bored too on my own. I built a 9 sim world devoid of life.
Now I just run 1 bare OpenSim region when I need it to test sculpties and textures and animations for upload. That alone is worth having one.

Actually, when I jumped into the sim yesterday it looked like griefers had been partying because I havn't cleaned up in a while and the are bits and pieces of tests everywhere. I even have had to find some clear space to work.

And yeah, plenty of people now run an OpenSim for family and friends only. opensimulator dot org.
