I guess I'm being silly in not knowing how to do this, but while I can *zoom* the SL window to fill the screen, I haven't the faintest idea how to make it smaller. Is its current size (3/4-ish of my 1280x864 widescreen) as small as it goes? Movement really crawls on my Powerbook, though it's fast enough when I stand still.

Any ideas? I reckon making the window smaller is what'll give the biggest benefit in terms of speed improvements. Pretty much all my pretty-making prefs are off, and here at work I've got a fat load of bandwidth... I guess it could be latency, since I'm in the UK?

Im no expert or anything, but i doubt that making the window smaller will boost speed, unless the problem is only in your graphics card. Try going into graphics options. there are lots of things there that you can turn off (and that i did turn off) that will boost speed without serously taking away from graphics quality.

Well that's the thing, see, it *was* the graphics card to a large extent, and once I discovered that the resize widget was there, but invisible (whose clever idea was that!?) and managed to shrink the window down a bit, everything got that little bit nicer.

Mmn, thanks. Yeah, most things were off already. Notably the "AGP Acceleration". D'oh. So I switched that on and.. yeah, things are lot faster now. Still, it's putting my powerbook through its paces - I didn't even know it had a fan until SL managed to trigger it :)

Most important thing is that now it's usable. Hooray! Now all I have to do is make my avatar not look terrible ;)

Hey Sincerity! :)

The Mac client is currently not at all optimized for OSX, so, it's a surprise that it runs at all for any of us. By the end of this month, we will have version 1.3.0, which will be optimized for OSX. In fact, there's a preview of 1.3.0 today...

Have fun with your avatar... :)

Hey Merwan:

To "shrink" or grow the window to a size you like, just grab the lower right hand corner of the window (yeah, it's actually the Inventory Button's lower right hand corner :-P -- you may need to try a few times bfore you get the location to grab right. It works just like any other window in OSX, just doesn't have a stretch thumb :-D
