Hi Clauds, welcome to the forums! Yes, a lot of folks have this problem every once in a while. Your friend's avatar has been "ghosted" - kind of frozen halfway through logging out.

The only thing that really fixes this problem is to restart the sim. Hopefully your friend knows what sim her avatar was in when she last logged out? If so, she can IM the sim owner (or send him/her a notecard) saying that her avatar is ghosted in their sim and asking politely if the owner can please get the sim restarted?

If the sim is a mainland parcel where she owns land, she can actually just file a support ticket to get it restarted, even if she is a Basic (non-paying) member.

If your friend cannot get through to the sim owner or has forgotten where her avatar is (note: her avatar WILL be visible to other avatars nearby), she can just wait until the sim is restarted during next week's rolling restart. All sims in SL will be restarted on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

I was told that the way to fix this issue is to log in as an alt and send an IM to the ghosted avatar. The sim will then realize that the person is really gone, remove the ghost, and all will be well.

This seemed to work great the one time that I tried it.

The IMing, bumping, and paying used to work almost without fail. But, it's been a year or more since that method of getting unghosted has been reliable. Apparently, it still works sometimes.......but the sometimes are few and far between. It's always worth a try but don't rely on it. The sim restart always works.
