It sounds like maybe your laptop is overheating or something.
I have a dv6000 and it runs SL fine (i no longer use it for SL since SL fried its motherboard which HP replaced under warranty -yay), your dv8000 should have no problems with SL, but i do know those dvX000 series seem to have heating/fan problems.

Wow, assuming that is centigrade, that is super hot. You can fry an egg on that CPU. That definitely is why your laptop shuts off when running SL. Poor little thing.

Most likely something faulty with your cooling. You wrote a noisy fan running. Might be poor thermal contact between CPU and heatsink inside the machine. Do you still have warranty on the laptop? If so I would send it for repair. Definitely not normal.

And this evenning, my screen became grey... it's the beginning of the end ! And no, the warranty is over since 1 year...

70ºs to 80ºs is where most current laptop processors run at with a full load and proper cooling... many newer ones are rated to run find over 100º

From: Missy Malaprop 70ºs to 80ºs is where most current laptop processors run at with a full load and proper cooling... many newer ones are rated to run find over 100º Ok for the newer laptop, but the fabrication of my pavilion has 4 years now, it's a dinosaur, so the t° maximum of the laptop isn't the same, no ? Maybe another reason : Test this evenning in SL. When i'm in Sl, the temperatur of processor is 80° BUT when SL running in background, with a another window in front (internet explorer, everest software for testing temperatur), processor are under 65° immediatly... It's maybe a problem with the graphic card (geforce go 7400) ?

It's most likely dust build up inside the case. Laptops are somewhat of a problem for cleaning out since it's pretty risky taking them apart to get to the inside. A can of compressed air blown through all the vent openings to get as much dust out as possible is really about the only thing you can do unless you take it a repair shop.............or if you feel confident enough go ahead and take it apart yourself. 80 degrees celius is hot..........but for a reasonably well maintained computer at that temperture should not harm anything. SL (and any other graphically and computationally intensive program) will cause most computers to jump 20 to 30 degrees celius after a few minutes of operation. That 80 degrees is not so bad really. But (there is aways a but ), if the computer has been run at higher temps for extended periods of time (like over 90 or 95 degrees) in the past you could be having problems with the 80 degrees now. Ambient temperture plays a part too......so if you are starting off with a warm environment that critical heat will be reached sooner than you might think.
