OK, so I wanna give this place a try, I just bought the lifetime account, and I have been trying to log in for 45 min.
The login process just hangs at "Connecting to Region".
I searched your forums, and tried switching my login location to home, no avail.
all the posts regarding this issue seem to mention a problem which has supposably been fixed. Any suggestions?
And yes I checked my internet connection. I got a fast pipe, care to suggest servers for me to ping or traceroute?

Hiya, Droopy! I know you! Okay, not totally sure what's with the login thing, but, try uninstalling and reinstalling. Let me know how that goes. Have you been able to login at all yet?

Hmm...try pinging data.agni.lindenlab.com. Is that even something you can ping? o.O
I know the world is up, so, the reason you can't get on is most likely hardware related. Either that, or maybe the Orientation Islands are so full that you can't even get in? Hmm...never heard of that happening...but, I guess anything is possible.
Can you post your specs here? Make sure you have the latest drivers for everything, especially graphics card and motherboard.

This might be a silly question, but you are on a broadband connection right? Dial up will not work for SL.

to answer the questions:
I am on a very fast broadband connection.
I am on an AMD 2700 machine, not overclocked with 512 meg of RAM and 120 gig h/d partitioned into 3 partitions. ATI Radeon 9700 pro, latest drivers.
Bios is up to date
Windows XP Pro fully patched.

Email support.
(Make sure you've actually allowed SL to access the 'net through your router!)

Are there particular ports that need to be open on my router?
I am a bit on the secure side, and taking the security out of the equation is not an acceptable answer for any online product IMHO.
So what ports does SL need open?
btw my router is netgear not linksys...

SL only uses outgoing connections, none are inbound - so if you're using a regular NAT setup you wouldn't need to open any extra ports. If you're for some reason packet-filtering things from the inside as well you should read this article in the knowledge base.

DROOPY!!! Had the same problem in Jan., called SL. I had to "allow" a block of SL IP numbers via my prtoection software. My software automatically blocked them. We were all here for you last night. Kept jumping between here and "home" to find you. I will look for you tonight either here or at "home." 'blowkiss LaliKat

no luck yet, I have just now changed my account from trial to full blown, I dont think that change will fix the issue as you would think that a trial account and a member account would still be processed by the same login servers, but who knows!
Tonight, I will not be making another attempt, I have a very pressing event to attend elsewhere, maybe I will be seeing you there or after the event Kat?

Droopy, have you tried contacting Linden Lab support yet? They have a toll free 800 number, as well as very fast e-mail support.
Your computer seems good, so, I don't know why it's doing this. Might just be some weird conflict between a few things.
Enjoy tonight's radio address.

Try the simplest possible options you can, maybe we can rule out some things:
- no router, just direct from PC to DSL modem - no zonealarm or firewall - no other packet traffic running simultaneously
How, precisely, does it fail?

used to have this problem back in pre 1.2 days with zonealarm.. zone alarm would need to be shut off, only way I could get around it at the time since it always hung soI couldnt go over to zonealarm to allow it.
Since then that has been fixed... if you run zonealarm at all try killing it ...
