Partial Disconneciton?

I am having a huge problem with what I believe is called a "partial disconnect" I can IM people, but everyone 10 minutes my avatar freezes up in the Sim and I can move, but I can use the internet on that computer and all the other ones in the network. Any suggestions? Thanks

Anything I should change on my router perhaps?

I have what sounds to be the same bug. My avatar can turn, but not move forward or back, or teleport etc. Worst of all, some of the prim edit functions remain active (presumably because they are client side), so I don't immediately notice that the work that I'm doing isn't being saved.

I've learned to live with it, checking every now and then that I can take a step or two forwards ... and I think it might be router related too. I haven't had a chance to try and see if the problem goes away with a direct connection, though it wouldn't be practical with my setup anyway. One thing I noticed - I think the minimap goes orange when I'm not really connected.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Historically, a partial disconnect that consistently happens 5-10 minutes into Second Life is due to a software firewall. See:

I have this problem also, but it seems to be related to afk for more than three or four minutes. If I go afk, sometimes when I come back I am frozen. I can turn around, I can IM. If I try to teleport, it goes through the teleport sound effect and thermometer graphic, but then I reappear as before -- stuck. Only fix is to relog.

I have a cable router with SL ports open -- I don't think its a firewall problem.

Right, that's exactly the symptoms I get too. I've had it half-die when I've been editing something for a while (which is probably the same as afk as far as the server is concerned, if I'm not doing anything which will send info to the server whilst editing one prim), it also occasionally kicks the bucket when something complicated happens - big lag for some reason, or lots of collisions.
