I've just downloaded and installed SL for the first time. But all i see is a black, grey and white blinking screen. I can log in and make out general shapes of objects, but no details or colors, and words/instructions blink too. Is there a way of correcting this?
I'm trying to play SL on a Sony Vaio laptop model VGN-NR160E with Intel GM, 965 Express Chipset Family.

ohhh, your laptop's graphics card uses the Intel X3100 chipset, which is due to its core stepping of 500MHz and a max shared memory of 256MB ,resp 384MB, a bit too weak to run SL properly. But I can be wrong so try a driver update (if available)..maybe this helps. but actually I'd recommend a more powerful hardware than this system. It's a small business laptop ..not meant for gaming. I know folks, SL is no game , but it requires ressources like a up-to-date 3D game would do.

Can I change the graphics card from the Intel to the reccomended NVIDIA GeForce 6600, without harming my comp. or other programs? I was told that doing so could blow out the mother board, but I dont know all this tech stuff....lol.
