Maximum Concurrent Users on one private island

HI all,

We currently own a full sim (private island) and have over the last year or so slowly built out the content and island. We were advised that the maximum number of avatars that could be on the island should be limited to 40 people (50 the max, with 40 being the number recommended to us).

Was wondering if anybody knows:

- what the maximum number of avatars on the island (does Linden have a limit)?
- what the maximum number of avatars on the island without affecting performance?
- is there an FAQ that talks about this (can not find one anywhere)?

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The maximum number of AVs on a private island is 100 - but the default setting is 40. The estate owner can change the maximum number in World>Region/Estate>Region using Agent Limit.

The maximum number of AVs without affecting performance depends on too many variables for there to be a simple answer (and of course if the sim is loaded with scripts, huge textures and physical objects it may be horrendously laggy even if there's no one there at all), my impression is that most sims usually start to slow down with more than about 15-20 AVs, but I've been in sims on my own and had problems and I've also been in sims with 35-40 people and everything's run fairly smoothly.

While this is certainly true, one of the really big questions that will get you in the ballpark is how often things are changing.

If you wanted to do something like a class or a meeting that involved a bunch of people hanging out and chatting with maybe one or two people playing with prims as the other watched, you can probably stuff a fair number in there.

If it's something more dynamic with folks TPing in and out and all sorts of people rezzing and building and such, you're not going to be able to put nearly as many in there.

More stuff changing = less power to support more avatars.
