I am unsure as to why it would stop working after properly working.

Though I can say that it can be fixed by installer proper character support. If windows then this will be a download from microsoft.com, though someone else will have to come along and link the proper packages, as I don't know off the top of my head.

Me too, same problem

I am using XP. I was able to see the extended characters (alt + num key) until recently. It is not a font problem (I think) because I can see those in other applications, just no longer in SL. Anyone got a clue why these stopped working in SL?

What version of SL viewer?

When you do Advanced, Debug Settings, FontSansSerifFallback, what font filenames are shown there?

Seems like I read about a bug in some viewer relating to extended characters.

Version and Font

I am using 1.21.6 viewer.

MSGOTHIC.TTC;gulim.ttc;simhei.ttf;ArialUni.ttf is the font listed in Advanced>Debug>FontSansSerifFallback.

I thought I was the only one suffering this issue, or that it was a Linux-specific issue. I, too, cannot see many of the extended characters used in many gestures. The funny part is, if I directly copy/paste the gesture's text, when someone uses it, to a text editor, they all show up fine; so it is not a matter of system support for the font or unicode in general. It seems to be specifically a viewer issue. Currently running viewer version 1.22.8, though I've had this problem for as long as I can remember.

Characters Show in Other apps

Yeah. It's not my computer also, because I can see those characters in any other apps I have tried. But sometime in the last month or so SL quit showing them.

I had that issue before and I believe installing the font arialuni.ttf fixed it (http://www.buddhismtoday.com/software/ARIALUNI.TTF)
