AV Skin not working:(

I seem to be having some issues with the color textures on my Avi. I received some texture files from an in world friend (head_color.tga, lowerbody_color.tga, upperbody_color.tga) and changed them out in the SL "Character" folder to experiment with another color option. Once done, I changed them back to the original files, but I'm still experiencing issues between the upper body and lower body textures. Going into appearance mode makes the problem go away, but upon exit from the appearance mode I go back to being mismatched. I have already tried doing a complete reinstall of the SL software, and checking my files in the SL "Character" folder to make sure they are the originals. My friend has done the same experiments several times with no ill effects on his Avi. We are at a loss to explain the differing results. Can you help me fix my AV? I seem to be permanently disfigured .
